About Hidden Shelter

Hidden Shelter is a first-person horror game, focused on exploration, developed by the White Vortex studio. It is under development on the Unreal Engine for Windows PC. Explore the area in search of clues and escape from a bloodthirsty being who wants to kill all those who approach the place.

The game's story is about three friends who after a sudden white flash on the road got into an accident. Their car crashed. After waking up, Charles and Bernard lose sight of Diego. Diego is Bernard's older brother and friend of Charles who drove the car. Desperate with the strange noise in the woods, Charles decides to go out for help, even though he doesn't believe that Diego was still alive. Bernard, on the other hand, does not want to leave his brother behind and believes that he managed to escape. The two leave for a mansion in the forest in search of their lost friend and at the same time need to stay alive by running away from a sinister creature that inhabits the place.

Something unusual happened in that house that resonates around the place as a kind of eternal curse. Bad things happened there. Love has always been blamed for everything.

It is up to the player to put the pieces of this dark puzzle together and find out what is the thread that unites the accident, the strange creature, murders and the history of the house itself.

Hidden Shelter is another horror title that has been added to my very small and selective "releases that I'm reviewing without actually completing the entire game first" list. I believe thoroughly in beating a game before writing a review, but every once in a while there's a release that presents itself as a shameless waste of time and effort to do so. What I'm about to say is nothing short of harsh, as White Vortex have managed to bundle every single element that makes a horror game god awful, while having the audacity to tag it under "survival horror", and additionally charging $11.49 CAD for it all. Story? A mYsTeRiOuS eNtIty runs your car off the road and you find yourself in an aBaNdOnEd HoUsE with your brother (?) friend (?) while looking for the third passenger that was in your car. There are notes scattered around this tOtAlLy UnIqUe MaNsIoN that are completely incoherent and do nothing to tell a backstory of this location, other than alluding to some vague, weird relationship between two people. I usually won't kick up a fuss about this kind of thing if the developer is obviously ESL, it's nice to have even the effort of putting the game into English, but here it's "let's…

A game with effort from a small dev team. Inspired from bigger games, but lacks at the execution. Bad A.I. pathing, lighting and lack of atmosphere after the initial introduction. I honestly prefer collecting coins to collecting the keys to all these locked doors. Full Review Overall Rating: 1.5 Out Of 5. Hidden Shelter is a first person horror adventure game built out of a bunch of Unreal Marketplace assets. It's a familiar story, you're in trouble and you need to go explore the haunted house to get help, all badly translated to English. A lot of effort seems to have gone into the core game design, but little in the way of polish, look and feel, game handling and so on, so the gameplay is very clunky and not all that enjoyable. There's little to say about the game graphics because if you've played enough Unreal Engine amateur/indie games, you've seen them all before, quite literally, such is the nature of asset flips. While there's a lot of potential for such a game, and in the right hands it's entirely possible a bunch of Unreal Marketplace assets could be assembled into a decent kind of first person horror game... Hidden Shelter isn't it.

Hidden Shelter, developed and published by White Vortex Games, is a first-person psychological horror experience that focuses on atmosphere, vulnerability, and gradual narrative discovery rather than fast-paced action or complex mechanics. It begins with a familiar premise—searching for a missing friend after a mysterious accident—but quickly shifts into a more intimate and unsettling journey set within an isolated mansion deep in the woods. From the moment you step inside, the game establishes a tone of quiet dread, relying on tension and uncertainty rather than overt spectacle to carry the experience forward. The gameplay is built around exploration, with players moving through the mansion’s interconnected rooms, searching for keys, unlocking doors, and uncovering fragments of a story that slowly takes shape over time. The structure is deliberately simple, emphasizing observation and movement over mechanical complexity. Much of the engagement comes from paying attention to environmental details—notes, objects, and subtle changes in the surroundings—that hint at the events that occurred within the house. This approach aligns the game with narrative-driven horror experiences, wher…

I ran outside from a thing that then couldn't follow me, and soft-locked myself.

Another generic horror game without charisma, very boring that despite using the unreal engine looks worse than the worst games made in Unity. I could continue listing errors, but I can't finish the game, because an electric lock where you have to put a code, that lock doesn't appear to me, so I can't open that door and I can't finish the game. Regrettable!
