The Game Itself & AI Usage I initially bought Severance to play with friends, but it was incredibly buggy. The third person to load into a lobby couldn't hear or speak in voice chat. Additionally, the game forces a Discord invite on your screen upon launch, funneling you into their server just to play. I also noticed the game uses generative AI for several of its textures. DO NOT BUY THIS BROKEN MESS. If you are thinking about playing this with your friends, save your money and run the other way. The game features a game-breaking bug where the third person to load into a lobby is completely cut off—unable to speak or hear anyone in voice chat. Even worse? The developers are completely ignoring their community. This is a widespread issue blasted all over their Discord, yet it is nowhere to be found on their "known bugs" list. They refuse to acknowledge it or address it, proving they don't care about the player base. To top it all off, the game uses shady tactics right out of the gate, forcing you to accept a Discord invite the second you launch with zero option to decline. Do not waste your time or your money on this half-baked disaster. I am refunding immediately, and every other player should too.

Weird, I don't remember buying a half baked demo! Now that I have your attention, lets address the elephant in the room. Several, actually. This is going to be a long one, so buckle up kiddos! Severance is a co-op horror game that tries to be Phasmophobia... and fails at every single turn. Now, I'm not one who dislikes Phasmophobia clones. I think they're fine, and I play them a lot. I was actually very intrigued by this game's description, and it seemed promising! However, I've seen better games made on Roblox by literal children. This game is full of a toxic community, a toxic developer, AI slop (despite the dev lying about it and trying to cover it up; I'll cover more on this later in this review), usage of stolen assets & free assets, harassment, unfair treatment of others, and so much more. Like the game a lot, its fun but very annoying dropping your equipment over and over every time ghost event happens. There is no in game achievements you have to grind to unlock basic equipment but they want you to get a perfect match.... Then you and your team can step in salt is a bit weird which takes away from ghost stepping in salt. Hopefully the game gets improvements soon.

Updated review: The UI is much better after the most recent update. I'm not sure how I feel about most of the items in the game now being level locked, and this meant I was not able to test to see if the issues with the store not counting money correctly were fixed. I wasn't high enough level to purchase anything. I still feel the experience in game could be a little more interesting, but I'm super happy to see the dev being receptive to feedback and fixing issues! The pacing feels slow; it was consistently just annoying trying to wait around for evidence while the ghost did basically nothing.
