It's basically a baseball auto-battler. You click a button, wait for a short animation to play, then repeat until game end. No interaction during the game. At least the games are only 3 innings, otherwise it would feel even more tedious. As you're not actively doing anything during the game, an option to speed up the game would help. (Update: ok good, there's a 20-run mercy rule. It's a little weird that it can take effect in the top of an inning, but it makes practical sense here.) The only actual decisions you get to make, from what I can tell, are which cards to buy (or sell), and whether to pay for a refresh of options. To continue with the trend of reviews comparing vs Balatro: you're playing a few hands of Five-card draw and then between rounds you can buy something like common (update: maybe a few uncommon) jokers and basic tarot cards. The graphics, theming, naming, and sound are all fine. It is a "baseball" game. The game mechanics that are implemented do appear to work properly and it seems fairly polished at this point. There just isn't much to the actual game. (Unless I missed something, but based on other reviews, the in-game how to play / glossary, and pa…4 found this helpful
I refunded this after seeing that this major update would be the last. There's some germ of an idea here but I genuinely wonder if the devs sat down and played this for a few hours straight: - hitting the same button hundreds of times with no agency isn't very fun so it's kind of crazy that it isn't already auto-rolling - the animation speed is an absolute slog. Why does a Walk take longer than anything else? - How is it even possible to lose the first match? You haven't even had a chance to influence anything at all, so you're not getting punished for making a bad decision, you're getting punished for playing the game. which makes playing the game feel like a bad decision. - no matter how well set-up your roll outcomes are, they can be completely undone by a few lucky cards from your opponents. - because making good decisions has very little to do with outcomes, your wins rely almost solely on luck. I may as well roll two six-sided dice, wait three seconds, and roll it again until I get two sixes 10 times in a row and then say I won. that's the same game as this. just wait out the astronomical probabilities until things come up your way. Diceball is a slay the spire-esque game where your team faces another team in a 3 inning baseball game and you have to win 10 in a row to win the championship. Dice are used to determine outcomes of at bats and each win earns you a card that increases your chance to win. I got this game because I have a dice-based ttrpg called Deadball where outcomes are dice-based. Deadball is really complex, however, and uses player stats and competing dice rolls to determine a variety of potential outcomes. This game is very simple; roll 2d6 and whatever the outcome is, that’s your result. So a 3 and a 5 is double or whatever. It’s too simple. Its not really worth it unless you want a VERY casual card and dice baseball game. It worked on my Steam Deck.
This is half of a great game. The basic idea is sound, you roll a dice to generate the results on an at-bat. Between games, you have the chance to buy upgrades that improve your results or hinder your opponents. This is generally fun, except for a few major flaws. 1) You have no control of anything that happens during the game. Your fate is entirely determined by the dice rolls. This isn't awful, except for the fact that it gets a little boring. 2) To "Win" and unlock the next team, you have to win 10 games in a row. If you lose once, you're done. Pretty harsh in a game that is as much luck as skill, especially early on, but even late in the game, you can buy a fantastic set of upgrades and still lose to plain bad luck. 3) The first game you have no control. You don't get to shop, you just have the starting board vs the opponent's board. You can lose here without having any input on the game at all.
Haven’t put a ton of time into it yet, but I feel like I’ve got a pretty good idea of the mechanics. I’ll keep playing, but my hopes aren’t high. I love it in concept, but it ends up being very hands-off, which seems weird for this genre. Only being able to hold 3 modifier cards, plus your one starting card that you can’t change feels really limiting. Mercy rule kind of makes sense, until you realize how easy it is to score 20 in an inning. Feels like it needs to be a higher number. On the positive side: the presentation is awesome, love the aesthetic. I also like a lot of the upgrade ideas. I think if you had more room to play with them, and more interaction during the actual game, it would be super cool. Overall, it’s not the best and honestly just leaves me kind of disappointed that there isn’t another game like this that does it better.
Fun game; however, there needs to be a save function!
