Aeons of Rebirth

Aeons of Rebirth, developed and published by Short Scale, is a compact incremental strategy experience that blends idle progression with stripped-down 4X-inspired systems. This game starts out okay but then it gets slower and slower until you're soft-locked and need to wait for incredibly long times to do anything to move forward. It becomes more of an interactive screensaver than a game. The crux is the developer didn't make a way to stop runs early and get Black Matter to progress when stuck. After putting hours into the game I just had the sense they never played it themselves to balance it. They moved on to a new game and it doesn't look like this one will ever get fixed. I would pass.

The active game is short and linear. Progress becomes exponentially longer in required time after the story finishes. The game performs like it is mining crypto in the background with all my fans running on max despite the simplicity of the graphics and the nature of the game. The last achievement is a ridiculous grind that involves waiting for longer and longer times and adds exactly zero joy to anyone's life. My playtime consists of maybe 2 hours for the story, and the rest was the last acheevo.

Fun but late game is way slow

Good game. Love the storyline and the gameplay.

Minimal content, poor execution of the game mechanics. Multiple ways to software lock yourself and the dev's "fix" is for you to delete your progress. Brilliant. The difficulty scaling is screwed up too. The game progresses with an acceptable level of difficulty, and then when you go to finish off the last few achievements, the difficulty scaling goes vertical. I guess that's how he decided to extend play time instead of adding content. Give it a pass because the reviews are coming in, and they're mostly negative.
