Liminal Lane

I enjoyed this very much but I love weird games. It's a short game, (no saves) and there is one part at the end of the office level that is very dark and it's hard to find the stairs up to the roof but otherwise I thought it was fun and strange, the ending was exactly what I hoped for.

It’s a game about liminal spaces and while some areas are done really well, others were more weird than anything. Another beautiful, interestingly weird, nostalgic liminal game. I really enjoyed the short experience.

There were a lot of interesting things here. It felt like a journey through childhood, adulthood, and finally our eventual demise, but a little jumbled up. It felt like each area was meant to evoke some feeling, but I think a lot of that was left vague to let each person feel it a little different. It's a walking sim that lets you sit and think about life and what we've lost. What's behind us.

This is a hard one to review, but I ultimately leaned toward a thumbs down. I know making a videogame isn't easy, but if you're going to devote the time, energy, and effort to creating one, why not see it completely through and make it the best it can be? That's basically my biggest issue with this game. There's an interesting idea here, and I don't think it's [i]horrible[/i], but it feels like something that got maybe 60-70% of the way toward being finished and then somebody went, "Yep, ship it." A short game, I spent 40 minutes on my first walkthrough. I like that there are no entities threatening me, just an explorable environment and a palatable atmosphere. [b]Liminal Lane[/b] delivers a visually interesting experience. Technically it's rough around the edges - it lacks basic setting options, interacting with doors can be awkward. Still, as a first effort by the developer, this is a very playable game. The original oil paintings were a nice touch. I picked this title up on sale, so no complaint about value for money spent. Recommended for those who are interested in Liminal Spaces and like supporting new game developers.
