LUCKROT

Discovered this in the recent Fanatical bundle. Cool game, a fun roguelike FPS set in a dystopian corpo future where your fight to the death is livestreamed. Its an addicting game loop. The movement is awesome and once you dial it in you can really fly around arenas and mow down enemies. The different upgrades and power ups are cool and keeps things fresh from run to run. Controller support is solid and it feels natural playing with a controller. There are a few downsides. The performance is not great especially for a game with graphics like this. I couldn’t push more than 25 fps on Steam deck, requiring frame generation to be used. I wish there was a bit more variation of the arenas, they are only slightly different from run to run and pretty ugly on the eyes, though I get that’s part of the brutalist aesthetic. Overall it’s a fun pick up and play for 15 minutes type of game if you enjoy the genre. Not a ton of depth but fun in short bursts.

Fun experimenting with different weapons and abilities, and I really enjoy the world and graphics style.

for the style and message it gets a pass but as software and a game I wouldn't actually recommend it to anyone. the game is constantly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around and teasing you. from the moment you enter luckrot there are 4 doors, its just for show though, you immediately get the impression this is going to be run based. if you stop moving or display inaccuracy the game will also tease you. there's a huge amount of rough edges and "bugs" an annoying one i noticed immediately was confirming any menu prompts has your character shooting and sometimes the gun gets enabled while being hidden visually leading to occasional firing, later on when you wrap up you realize ammo doesn't matter as the game has almost entirely no challenge as long as you just keep moving around. I liked how i thought i was going into a bog standard rogue shooter thing but I think thats just part of the message, the elements for that are extremely shallow and everything is progressed through a slot machine, again another message. i think this basic idea could be done really well if fleshed out into a larger campaign with more considered levels and wall breaks and theres lots of pieces to appreciate. i only ever used the pis…

too many bugs

In short, this is a No for me but hopefully in the future it will be positive. Game is extremely buggy, if i had paid anymore then $1 for this game i would be upset. Multiple of the abilities are bugged dual wield makes me stand in place while shooting (bug or feature?) same with fireball. Grapple hook makes me float with no way of getting back down. Also for a movement game quite a few areas where i would get stuck on a wall, some of the abilities seem to be momentum based like the void jump so getting stuck causes you to teleport in place. Sometimes quests would not count such as kill x amount of creatures and no matter how many I kill x would not go up. Long range shots seemed impossible to hit on targets even some that where not moving, turning off camera sway fixed this. I really wanted to like this game, big fan of movement shooters & gambling, but in its current state just bad.
