Block Factory

Very good game! Would strongly recommend the game if not for it being abandoned by the devs post-launch with unfixed bugs and missing potential QoL improvements. They gave the excuse of being a small company of 5 devs, but they could have 1 of the devs working partial time to support this game instead of cutting off updates 3 months post-launch. The devs have already moved on to 2 new game Demos and 1 Full Game after this one.

Huge performance issues, only the first level works fine. Dev abandoned the game.

Pretty fun bite-sized factory game that involves a fair bit of problem solving and thinking. The game is split into levels spread across an overworld. To beat each level player must assemble several figurines using different tools like stackers, gluers, cutters, and other, and deliver them to the central diorama. Figurines increase in complexity as you progress through the game. By level 5 I already had to think a lot about how to utilize available mining spots and optimize assembly chains in order to fulfil the conditions and get all stars for completion of the level. And that's besides thinking about how to assemble the figurines themselves. The only problem I see with the game so far is performance. By the end of level 5, when I was completing the final steps of my assembly line for the last figurine, my FPS dipped to 55 and the game was feeling choppy as the result. I wish there was an option for a neutral review. Because while the game is fun, performance issues are unacceptable. If it'll get worse later with more complex figurines, it will ruin the entire experience. EDIT: So far, besides that one level, performance has been good. With no issues. However, I've got another …

I'll start off by saying there's better options out there but overall the game is alright. It's a rather simple building game that involves manipulating pieces like LEGO bricks into the right shapes and arrangements. As you progress the shapes get bigger and require more planning, sometimes you need to mix colors and paint certain pieces to match the goal, but it's not complicated. The biggest trip ups will likely come from some silly mistakes with planning as you learn the caveats of the machines and a few parts of GUI being a bit hard to distinguish. But overall it's mostly what you would expect from an automation game like this, where you have to choose where you think has the best distribution of resources for your building goals and you have multiple different ways you can solve the challenges. Regarding performance of the game I haven't had much of a problem that I can definitively say is a problem with the game since I play on an M2 MacBook Air using crossover which is NOT an officially supported platform for the game. The good: This game is a blocky orgy of joy that ruined my sleep schedule and made me question my life choices in the best way possible. Every time a fresh little cube gremlin gets painted, glued, and slapped into a glorious chonky knight I let out a gremlin screech that scared my neighbors. The factory hums like it’s on molly, machines click and clack in perfect harmony, and unlocking new tech feels like mainlining pure childlike wonder mixed with mild cocaine. I spent 14 hours straight making a disco rave squid and felt more accomplished than finishing my taxes. Pure unfiltered happiness in pixel form. The bad: One single belt slightly out of place and your beautiful factory immediately turns into a blocky mosh pit from hell. My elite taco army got jammed so hard they started a cult and began sacrificing each other to the glue gods. The optimization layer is basically dark sorcery — tweak one thing and your entire production line has a collective stroke.
