Fun while it lasts, it lacks a lot of replayability as there are only so many events to find and after you complete the main story, you've seen the best it has to offer. additional story content would've elevated it as well, but for five dollars it was an excellent game and easy recommend, 8/10

[b][h1]Technotopia[/h1][/b] [hr][/hr] Technotopia is a game that caught my attention mainly because of its visual style (I am a serious victim of my love for Art Deco) and because it looked like a city builder, which is another one of my weaknesses. For the modest price of €5, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to find a small indie game with interesting mechanics and a distinctive style. And luckily, I was right. The game puts you in the role of an AI tasked with building a city while maintaining the perfect balance between several factions competing for control of society: the government, the aristocrats, the businessmen, and the workers. To do this, you have to place buildings in the city according to the randomly drawn cards you receive. Each building provides resources and points for certain factions, but positioning also matters. Placing certain buildings in specific formations (for example, forming a square or a T shape) can provide additional bonuses for one particular faction. On top of that, different events and decisions appear throughout each run, forcing you to resolve dilemmas and choose which faction you want to favor, usually at the expense of another. These…

Its a puzzle game and not a city builder game. The main storyline can be finished in just a few hours, but the mechanics are simple enough that a player can pick it up pretty quickly. Decisions you make will have both an immediate effect and then a random consequence later on, so there is always some unpredictability

Do you know how to make a boring city builder even more boring? Streamline all the extra stuff and turn every movement into a card. Instead of building a city, you are basically playing administrative solitaire

I am honestly rather shocked how short this game turned out to be. Really wish it could have been longer. The basic gameplay loop is really quite addicting, and I think it is definitely a strong foundation to build upon. Then there is the story built around corporate sabotage and conflicting interest and the general horrors of corruption via capitalism. Solid visuals and nice enough of a soundtrack. While I do yearn for additional stories to be explored, the short story was explored fully.
