About Welcome to Elk
Frigg has a lot to learn in the small town of Elk after life in the big city! An apprenticeship as a carpenter, a group of new, complicated friends, and a town predisposed to all kinds of difficult relationships. But they're going to find their way just like all the other off-beat immigrants to the island of Elk. It's how life is across the water.
And just as they have fun exploring all the little nooks and crannies of an old, storied island and its old, storied people, Frigg will face some tough decisions, some heartwrenching situations and a the kind of heartbreak that sits with you forever. Whether it's playing cards for candy, getting their feet wet at the beach or just sitting down to listen to a story well-told, Elk will be an adventure that Frigg will cherish for the rest of their days.
The stories in Welcome to Elk are told by the people who we know and/or were there when the events took place. All are told from memory. The way they are used both on our webpage and in the game is true to the core story but everything like names, locations and other details are changed, renamed and often re-framed to protect the real people behind them, therefore, we call them tall tales. The stories are not one-to-one like you would experience in true crime for example. They are rewritten and combined to one linear narrative. Characters may play a role in one story where they were not a part of it originally and only us who designed it will ever know – or come close to the real truth of the stories.
Welcome to Elk might look like a “fun” game but it’s about telling stories – some are filled with humour, others are dark, but they go hand in hand.

Welcome to Elk is more interested in telling stories than giving you a lot to actually do. You spend your time meeting the island's strange and memorable residents while their stories unfold through a mix of dialogue and simple minigames. The gameplay is pretty minimal, but the little activities fit nicely into the narrative. Definitely worth checking out if you're after something cozy and emotional, though anyone looking for substantial gameplay might find it a bit too passive.7 found this helpful
Got this without knowing anything about the game. Definitely one of the most unique narratives I've come across in gaming. Can't say I understood everything shown, but at the same time, stories are meant to be passed on and evoke interest and emotions. And Elk is one interesting story.4 found this helpful
Welcome to Elk is an unconventional narrative adventure that treats personal stories as its most important form of exploration. Developed by Triple Topping and published by Akupara Games, it takes place on the fictional island of Elk, where an initially cheerful atmosphere gradually gives way to stories involving loss, friendship, questionable decisions, trauma, and the stranger corners of human experience. Instead of relying on combat or complicated puzzles, the game builds its identity around meeting people, listening to their experiences, and discovering how humor and tragedy can exist surprisingly close together. The story follows Frigg, a young carpenter who leaves city life behind to undertake an apprenticeship in Elk. Arriving as an outsider gives Frigg a natural reason to become acquainted with the island and its unusual residents. What initially feels like a modest change of scenery soon becomes a journey through the histories of the people living there. Conversations that begin casually can develop into unexpectedly serious accounts, while seemingly eccentric characters often reveal emotional depth once their pasts become clearer.
