Escape (2015)

Escape, developed and published by Stephane Bottin, is a deliberately minimalistic 2D platformer that strips the genre down to its bare essentials. It doesn’t rely on story, elaborate visuals, or layered systems to carry the experience—instead, it focuses almost entirely on precision, timing, and the player’s ability to navigate increasingly demanding obstacle layouts. From the outset, the game makes its intentions clear: this is not about spectacle or progression, but about mastering a straightforward set of mechanics through repetition and careful execution. The structure is simple and immediate. A set of levels is available from the start, each functioning as a self-contained challenge where the objective is to reach the exit without failing. There is no overarching narrative or progression system guiding the player forward, which gives the experience a distinctly arcade-like feel. You are free to approach levels in any order, retry them as often as needed, and focus purely on improving your performance. Ugly graphics, no sound, no music. Bad controls, terrible collision hitboxes, horrible level design. I played for five minutes and I already knew how trash this is. Most of the jumps you cannot reach due to the height, you have to keep jumping to hope the collision detection will be in your favor. Go play something else. There are better games out there. In fact, the majority of them are better than this.

Looks like a fun quick game with cute puzzle aspects, but a large amount of levels genuinely do not function on modern hardware and make them impossible to beat. They say "You can put your own favorite music as there is none in this game." but I would at least appreciate sound effects as the game is (mostly, besides one sfx the end) completely silent

The first Steam game I'd ever downloaded. I love this game, it's very charming to me. Very gimmicky at times but fun. There are a couple levels that don't work properly I assume because of certain things being tied to hardware speed. Also no music or sound effects. Then again, I feel the lack of audio adds to the experience for me. It's a very simple game and that makes me enjoy it even more.
