Escape (2022)

"Escape" is yet another of literally hundreds, if not thousands of garbage low effort 2D retro pixel endless runners infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere just by existing. Did we need yet another one of these? At least they're not trying to make money out of this one. All you do in this very shallow and pointless endless runner copycat is run endlessly to the right, jumping over hazards. That's it. It's now the year 2025, and instead of flying cars, we get this. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. Escape is a compact 2D endless platformer developed and published by Windshield Wiper Max Games. Released as a free-to-play title, it embraces a deliberately uncomplicated arcade philosophy: keep moving, collect points through continued progress, jump to avoid danger, and survive for as long as possible. Rather than surrounding this basic premise with an elaborate storyline or complicated progression system, the game places almost all of its attention on movement, timing, and the pursuit of a better score. This gives Escape an immediately accessible quality, although its narrow focus also means that players should approach it as a lightweight arcade experience rather than a substantial platforming adventure. The central gameplay loop is easy to understand. The player runs continuously through a 2D environment and must react to obstacles by jumping at the appropriate moment. Staying alive allows the run to continue and provides the opportunity to accumulate a higher score, while a mistake brings the attempt to an end. Sorry but no from me. Info says: "The further you make it the harder it will be to survive." - nope. After couple of seconds is superhard: spike(s) + hole for example. And this is precision (runner) platformer with procedural generated level. And that is main weakness of this game. This "procedural generated" part is reason why i give negative feedback. You can have okay level where you occur harder part after 20-30 seconds and in other hand you can have superhard level with 2 spikes and hole after 5 seconds. Also, 2 spikes is hard to pass because you need to be very precise with the jump. I play just 7 minutes and im tired of this game. Sorry, but no from me :-/
