Vektor Wars

Vektor Wars is an older game from 2015. It's a venerable 9 years old at the time of this review. While it looks like an arcade shoot 'em up, it's actually a first person arena shooter with an arcade theme, as you blast various low poly robots with a variety of weapons. There's some work done in the variety of weapons and pickups but the overall game design is shallow and unambitious, and it must be remembered that games don't exist in a vacuum. Even when this launched in 2015 it had to compete with Rainbow Six Siege, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood and Battlefield Hardline, and in all of those games the developers knew how to put textures on polygons (one might even call that a minimum requirement where game development is concerned in the 21st century). In this game, however, all you do is move around a blocky map and shoot stuff... it's directionless, and it's a great reminder why video games became more complex in terms of narrative since Space Invaders. I bought it, I played it, I didn't like it. I reviewed it, and I think you should buy BattleZone VR Gold Instead (it plays on PC, non VR, just fine)

This game makes my heart smile

I got this game because I had been looking for a good BattleZone remake and I must admit the aesthetics of this game where well done, but I wish you could get in to the Cobra at your spawn point or other vehicals. This isn't really BattleZone, it's just an OK FPS. The Steam page claims : "An armoury of loud and heavy weapons; feel the destruction!" The actual weapons in this game are neither Loud nor Heavy and don't cause me to feel the destruction. It had promise but ultimately disappointed.
