About Aeronaut
"Aeronaut" is one of the first music experiences to feature a hologram created with Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture. This technology was used to capture Billy Corgan's performance in volumetric video. In this experience, Viacom and Isobar explored how to better connect fans to artists by allowing them to interact with and experience music in an entirely new way.

Aeronaut is a free VR music video from the lead singer of Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked good, played ok, sounded good. The song was ok. The volumetric camera work on the singer was excellent, crisp and no artifacts. You can make some emotes during the performance. This is a short five minute video. You can move within your play space. You can move your arms. Try this, if you like music from lead singer of Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan or music videos in general.3 found this helpful
Aeronaut is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, Aeronaut is a software application that that shows a music video from Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins). That's right, Viacom probably hit themselves on the head and decided Steam is "Youtube for VR Music videos" and has nothing to do with games. Viacom is wrong. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misl…
Super dope VR music video. Not my type of music, but it was so clearly well done I don't even really care. Has interactivity so you're not just doing nothing the whole time, and the whole space is super animated and colorful. 89/100
I Don't call it: What a Review for Nothing
Yes I usually give stupid projects like this a thumbs down, but the issue with this is that, Steam just needs a new service for these kind of things. What do you get with this? You get a song for free, from the Smashing Pumpkins lead singer, which is great, normally songs, even singles are what like 2 bucks, and maybe 5 for a music video? So for real you get a full ass song for free. But it isn't just that. What is the product itself? An over the top art project, an experimental thing I WANT MORE OF. Can you imagine what someone like Joji could do with this kind of ♥♥♥♥, what kind of hidden Easter eggs could be put in? A music video that you can walk around in, and experience in multiple different ways? That's crazy. I recommend the download, also save the song dummy, it's free.
