Alpha Squadron, developed by Ender’s Workshop and published by Ender Toone, is a deliberately straightforward throwback to the era when side-scrolling shoot ’em ups were defined by reflexes, pattern recognition, and arcade-style endurance. It doesn’t pretend to be anything more than a brisk, retro-flavored action game — and in that simplicity, it finds its identity. From the first moment you take control of your ship, the game places all of its attention on movement, dodging, and firing, evoking the spirit of classic horizontal shooters without layering on narrative, cutscenes, or elaborate progression systems. What it offers instead is a series of fast, increasingly demanding levels that rely on responsive controls and predictable enemy waves, pushing players to refine their timing and approach as difficulty escalates. The campaign comprises thirteen levels, each built around a specific rhythm and culminating in a distinctive boss encounter. The structure is intentionally compact: you jump into a stage, battle through waves of foes, and face a final challenge before advancing to the next level.
