About Another_World
It was an average day for Steve the intern, until he gets a strange call late at night telling him to go back to work.
When he arrives, Steve gets lost in his own paranoid delusions until tragedy strikes.
Left with no way out, Steve decides to end it all. But instead, he finds himself in..
..another world...
Another_World is a Silent Hill/P.T. inspired psychological horror game. This is my first independently developed game made with Unreal Engine 4.
Featuring an original story and music written by me.
Another_World takes much inspiration from the gameplay mechanics and atmosphere of Silent Hill, but with an addition of Sci-fi elements.
Artificial Intelligence is a reoccurring motif, blurring the lines between human and robot.
Can human thoughts be translated by an A.I.? Can our worst nightmares be constructed by an unfeeling machine?
Can the human mind ever be truly understood?
Act 2 coming Halloween 2020.

I was really disappointed that I could not experience this game, as the atmosphere is interesting and tense. You feel like a jumpscare could happen at any moment, your tunnel vision making it feel like something is lurking just waiting for you to turn around. However, this game is a buggy mess. I went out of bounds way, way past the bus but did not suffer a death, and I am still confused if you are supposed to explore further or just stay close to and in the building. I encountered the baddies eventually but got soft-locked by getting stuck between one that promptly stopped moving and a table. There is no way to jump, go backwards, or save so I was just forced to restart. Object interactions that are required to progress the story frequently don't work, and the controls are not intuitive, I feel like there's a way to fire the gun you have but there are no control tutorials. The sound and music do not adjust, and what I have seen of the acting calls to mind Tommy Wiseau's The Room more than Silent Hill, which this game clearly wants so badly to be, but lacks the subtlety. Or story. Or functional gameplay. I understand this is free and likely made by a single person, but this one of …1 found this helpful
THIS REALLY WAS SCARY
I'm going to poop my pants out of anger
The opening cutscene gave me hope for this game, but after a couple of minutes of random voicelines and a black screen, it was quickly lost. The graphics aren't terrible for a game made in 2020, and that's about all the good things I can say about this. In terms of the actual gameplay, there were 0 instructions which lead me to walk aimlessly around the map for 10 minutes until I stumbled across an NPC in a bus that triggered some more random voicelines, but this did not change anything so I went back to walking around. After another 5 minutes of walking around trying to figure out what to do, I fell off of the edge of the map. The voice acting isn't the worst that I've seen, but it certainly could be better. Overall, I will not recommend this game (Which I can hardly call a game because there's no clear objective)
Unlike all of the joke reviews, I'll offer some actual criticism. It's not great. It's comprised of bad quality Unity store assets. The voice acting isn't good; the main character sounds like he's trying to be an action movie guy with a gruff voice that comes off as very unauthentic. All of the voice acting comes off as trying too hard to go for a certain stereotypical accent, but ends up overplaying the part. The characters' mouths don't move when they speak. I can't speak to the quality of the story because the quality of the rest of the game made me stop short. Some advice: the filter is good, it hides some of the imperfections, but you need to get better with lining up the tiles. A lot of recent popular games like Lethal Company and PSX horror games use strong filters to their advantage, you should too. On the topic of PSX horror games, I would suggest you make your own assets in a low poly PlayStation 1 style. You say the game is Silent Hill inspired so make it look like an old game. Also you say that this is your first independently made game, which I assume means this isn't your first time trying to make a game. I would stick to 2D platformers and isometric games until yo…
