About Aquadine

This is a kinetic visual novel developed by SoftColors.

Story

After his mother was hospitalized for an unknown disease, Robin Liyun works as a part-time gondolier to make ends meet, but under an alias named Ciel. As he finishes giving tours one night, a mysterious voice lures him to discover a beautiful mermaid. She dives underwater shortly after their encounter, which leads him to believe Ancient Aquadine was real. His town was named after it out of respect for their sea deity Levios. Robin continues to live out his double life, while making new friends and learning more about the merfolk civilization.

I used to have another steam account where I played this for the first time, and I wished to replay this on my current account. Aquadine was a breath of fresh air for me as I typically don't boot up visual novels, so this was my first kinetic VN. Admittedly, I first only bought it because it had mermaids in it, but I did it again now because of how much I enjoyed it. I admire how Ciel's job as a gondolier helped introduce the lore pretty naturally. Seeing all the connections between characters also helps to bridge the gaps between routes and the lore. Cameron was my favorite then, and the same is still true now. All the routes are pretty enjoyable, and the last part of each route were my favorite parts of the stories just because of how things come together. This time around I noticed that each route shares some details that you would only know if you played a certain route. I guess that helps the broad strokes feeling of the memories ending, even if a certain character's route was the only one that could possibly be the "main" one... given the entirety of what happens. Still, I prefer the more realistic slice of life stories of the other routes where the stakes were small but fel…

Aquadine is a very entertaining visual novel. The story never fails to present you an interesting scenario, striking a good balance between funny, emotional or just plain wholesome. The pacing is great, I would never get bored of reading so much so I would always look forward to what's coming next, and would get sad when it was time to leave. The humor is great, the 4 different routes are different enough from each other and don't contain repeated bits. The ending is definitely unexpected. Overall, a great experience that can be reccomended to anyone!

Cute game and I wasn't expecting it to be this good! I liked all of the love interests and their stories, though Anya's is undoubtedly the longest and most fleshed-out route. I feel like I'd have enjoyed the others more if they had as much meat to them as Anya's, but then again, she is the poster girl besides Elisabeth.
