Argo (2023)

This is a fun little game where you basically do mini QTEs to activate powers and break free of enemy attacks. There is meta-progression after each death in the form of runes you obtain during a run. Each run only take a couple of minutes, quite literally. HOWEVER - when you die, the screen prompts you to press "E" to restart - doing so, 100% of the time, locks the game up and you need to close the game window completely and re-launch to keep playing. Luckily, the runes you obtain during a run are kept even when doing this, but... it definitely prevents me from wanting to do "one more run." When/if this bug is fixed, I think I would totally recommend this as a cheap game to kill a short period of time, but having to restart the game every 2 - 3 minutes means that I can only cautiously recommend this at the current time.

"Argo" is a minimalist pixelcrap (really lazy delivery there) boss fight simulator where fights are just a quick combo button mash... and nothing else. Like, take Street Fighter and remove almost all of the gameplay, and the graphics, dumb down the combos that are the only thing left, and you get this. Which explains why it was such a huge failure on Steam Direct. This comes across as something unambitious and "simple" in terms of implementation and technical quality and depth, more like a game dev tutorial or an experiment. It’s a classic case of a developer prioritizing the low effort needed to get a game listed on Steam over the actual delivery of a technically sound or compelling product. Whatever is needed to hammer out something "good" enough for Steam Direct self-publishing. The use of low-resolution, ugly pixelcrap here is dishonestly presented as a "deliberate artistic choice", but we all know it's because the developer wasn't capable of anything better.
