About Black Dragon Mage

Black Dragon Mage is a gorgeous dark fantasy, action-roguelite, top-down shooter with elements from the bullet heaven subgenre (aka "survivors-like"), featuring 16 bit style retro visuals and thousands of relentless demonic enemies, challenging boss fights and satisfying build variety.

Become the Black Dragon Mage

Hatch your very own dragon companion from an egg and ride it into battle as your ultimate weapon!

Upgrade your mage & weapons on every level-up and pick a unique combination of ARPG-style abilities for your run. Every death is a new opportunity to experiment and grow your might! Buy new meta-upgrades (weapons, abilities, upgrades, hats & more!) in the Hall of Relics and avenge your own death with newfound power.

Grow your might! Launch increasingly large volleys of fireballs, or icy orbs that leave frosty mines and freeze foes on contact, blast the undead with your arcane beam staff or harness the dark and chaotic power of the void itself! All primary weapons can be modified through stats, or special upgrade paths called Masteries, to unlock their full strategic potential and build variety.

Forge your own path on every run by experimenting with unique combinations of your core arsenal & powerful ARPG-style defensive and offensive abilities such as the Shield of Frost, Summoned Flameswords, Spiral Strike, Fiery Pentagram! and more!

Turn the environment to your favor using your (often outrageously explosive!) strategic genius, outmaneuver your foes by leading them into deadly traps! Laugh as you watch them hurl across the battlefield... Fools! Environments use procedural generation to make sure every run feels fresh, with randomly placed power-ups and hazards spread across the maps.

Very little content, 1 full (more or less) class, the other one has basically 1 skill to choose from, graphics look smooth and good overall, every run feels the same because of how little skill variety there is (the only bigger playstyle difference is your starting weapon). As of now the game has only 2 areas. You can encounter a soft-lock bug that freezes your game on "choose your reward" screen and the only way to get out is to alt+f4. At the moment expect about 2h of content. I don't recommend it right now. Updates are also too sporadic.

Super fun roguelite with survivors-like mechanics. The pixel graphics are really well done. I enjoyed the power curve in upgrades and it feels well balanced. The dragon mechanic is absolutely sick and makes you feel like a demigod. Awesome!

This is basically a Vampire Survivor type of game, it has the same basic gameplay but it sets some different foundations, that might set it apart later on (tho, they haven't yet been developed at the time of this writing). What I like a lot compared to Vampire Survivors is the graphic style, it's very charming, cute and distinctive, I wish that this would kept getting built ont (the dragons for example seem out of place compared to the rest of the graphics). In line with what I just mentioned, the music seems very out of place and generic, I would very much enjoy something that went along the lines of the graphics, something chiptuney or upbeat. Also compared to Vampire Survivors or Scarlet Tower you have very limited content, just 2 areas are available right now (the third shows up, but afaik you can't access it for play), there are only 2 characters, and 2 dragons (the second dragon seems pretty much identical in gameplay). Hopefuly they keep adding content and develop the RPG/equipment aspect which seems to set it apart from the other mentioned games. In the current state is hard to recommend it (specially considering the competition), but if the developer keeps building on…

The game feels and plays well, It's just lacking content. Definitely has potencial if the devs keep working on it.
