I'm looking forward to the next projects from the developers, but there are some issues I'd like to point out.
What's cool:
+ I enjoyed the interaction with the environment. + I liked the idea that acceleration makes the character a weapon.
What I see as flaws:
- There's no camera control, and the character isn't visible in a few places for (I think) no reason. - There are no instructions, although I imagine that fish can't read. Realistic. - The fixed camera makes it uncomfortable to navigate in a few places, but this is quite subjective. - It's insignificant which way you go in currents. What I mean is you can leave a prize somewhere, so players need to guide their character there, which is a mini-game in itself. - I feel like there aren't many types of enemies, so you don't even need to think much during combat. - The only way giant sea urchin can hurt you is if you swim into it, which is purely accidental. (not a negative, but) I would like to see more options for interacting with the environment in future projects.1 found this helpful
I absolutely loved this little game. The combat is smooth and surprisingly satisfying, although the turning can feel a little clunky at times, almost reminds me of tank controls. However what really stole my heart was the world itself. The visual design is breathtaking, and the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. There is so much life packed into this tiny adventure that I genuinely found myself wishing that there was more to explore. It's honelty my only real complaint: 'that it's too short.' It feels like the world has only just started, as you master the system right where the game ends. Honestly, if this were a longer I'd happily spend money on it because there's something here I really want to see more of. The achievements are very straightforward and not hard to do, with one exception: 'the no-hit challenge'. The occasional slow clunky movement or drift when turning makes that one a bit tricky, though once you master the movement, it becomes an enjoyable challenge. For a free game, this is an incredibly easy recommendation. It's short, it's beautiful, and I loved every minute of it. 🌊🐟
Golden!!!! I can't say enough about it. Fun, smooth gorgeous. I could gush enough about this that it it would seem like Team Aqua and Kyogre won and everyone would be living on boats. The length of the game is less like the deep ocean and more of a small reservoir, but the story is wonderful and it is complete. If the Ecco The Dolphin ends up being half as gorgeous, smooth, and fun to play It would be worth whatever they charge for it. Every single person that contributed to this game deserves high praise and I know they will make quality contribution to whatever they work on next.
feesh. Besides the non-movable camera I would have gladly played more. Fun visuals and fight ideas, puzzle could have been more complex but hey. Hope the grade was decent
Very rarely leave reviews but as the first student made game I've played I thought it might be worth weighing in. In a sense the game is visually great, Fluid at times clunky at others and easy to understand and get to grips with, there are design choices I think are great and others that could be expanded upon. My biggest complaint is the auto travel segments, you can move left and right but its propelling you forwards on a rail, which is a great way to show of visuals and tell a story without a transition to a cutscene. Which is great if done correctly, however whilst I love the visual in this segment the game fights you all the way taking you out of what immersion could be had, If you take the game up on is accessible option and try to move left and right while travelling across this path it responds poorly and feels as if your fighting against the game rather than playing in motion with this sequence. And even if you lay down the controller and try to indulge in the scene you are again pulled away as the path is poorly drawn leading to a dragging movement and the Swordfish getting caught on thin air, failing to exit the sequence on its own. The fact that this is the on…
