Box Office Mayhem: Theatre Tycoon

Very good game, fairly in-depth management, good research tree, wish that you could open like 100s of cinemas and that once you buy a film you could show it in all branches/franchises that you own. I hope that there's more coming in the future and this dev makes more game like this. 8.0/10 would recommend!

Perfectly balances effort against granularity of choice. You feel every decision land. No abstract knob-turning. A huge surprise and dangerously addictive.

Fantastically fun management sim. Highly reccomend. The developer seems really responsive as well. Has that one more turn addiction, and not in a painful grinding way. Pick it up!

Reasonably interesting concept. Ridiculously unrealistic. Shoddy implementation with glaringly obvious QA failures. Studio mode is mildly interesting (although the idea that you can complete photography on a 'big budget' movie in 3 weeks is just as wild as the notion that 'big budget' is less than half a million dollars), theatre mode is just plain bad. For some reason, you need to hire a research team to be able to hire marketers, or to buy any projector that isn't the basic model? I have no idea how much research is required before you can show ads to your customers. Buy it if you're desperate for a way to kill time, or if you're a hate-watching kind of person.

DEVELOPERS: PLEASE REPLACE THE STUPID MUSIC SCORE!!!!!! Well, the game is good overall. I've only been playing for a few hours, but I will say this: 1: I've been "duped". The trailer is NOT what the game play actually is. I have not seen "movie posters" or any of that "artwork" that is shown in the trailer. So, don't expect that. However, I am playing the "theater" game path, so maybe "movie posters" are on the movie production game path. Who knows. 2: The soundtrack ABSOLUTELY BLOW. I mean... it's BAD! It's just "canned generic music" that doesn't match the look and feel of what an actual movie experience actually is. I choose to "Mute" the game music and just play my own background music (you know, something that makes more sense for a movie theater experience) 3: The chosen color schemes feel like something just stolen from the game "Hollywood Animal". This is not a bad thing, it's just way too much of a coincidence that two games that deal with movies/movie production, have essentially identical "speckled brown / yellow" color schemes. 4: Going back to the trailer. The little "cartoon guy" and then later the "old guy" that looks straight out of a point and …

While this game has unlimited potential it is currently severely lacking. The choice of being a theater vs. a Studio is cool but there's definitely much more to do as a theater, still not enough. Ill likely stick to The Executive and check back to this game for potential updates! Do I Recommend? Not as it currently plays but i am definitely interested in what could be added!
