Brinkmanship is a first-person sci-fi mystery about a colony ship that has secretly changed course. The ship has 30,000 people on it and has been traveling for 20 years, your entire life. Now the future you’ve been promised is slipping away. The player must investigate the ship to find out what’s going on and confront the ship’s captain to get it back on track. Brinkmanship emphasizes conversation over violence, but leaves the gun on the table.
Investigate a Thrilling Sci-Fi Conspiracy
Immerse yourself in a gripping narrative as you uncover hidden truths, and decipher the cryptic motives steering the vessel off-course. With each revelation, the stakes heighten, and the fate of everyone you’ve ever known hangs in the balance.
Dynamic interactions influence character dialogue
Arm yourself with the option to draw, stow, or fire your weapon during critical conversations, the power of choice extends beyond words and adds a layer of tension. Influence the narrative with the subtle threat of force or the restraint of diplomacy, shaping the evolving story in unexpected ways.
Choose Violence or Eloquence to Guide the Fate of Your Crew
The destiny of the 30,000 souls aboard the colony ship lies in your hands. Will you tread the path of violence, asserting dominance and control, or will you rely on eloquence and negotiation to sway the course of events? Maybe you’ll even take a bribe to make your accusations disappear… Brinkmanship offers a unique blend of strategic decision-making, where your choices echo across the vast expanse of space, dooming the ship you were born on delivering it to the world you’ve been promised.

The overall quality is pretty high for a student project, but it isn't flawless. There are some odd choices that I don't doubt are due to the time constraints and non existent budget, but these are easy to overlook. The voice acting is a big plus, the cast are fairly competent however some of them are really quiet. No settings as far as I could tell. these minor issues are also easy to overlook. My only real problem is that I earned the good ending, yet accidentally skipped what one could call an ending cutscene and saw the text describing a bad ending appear on screen - the exact opposite of what I'd actually done. This wasted my playthrough and although it was short I really don't feel that this should have been a problem at all, even in a student project. I will likely try it again in the near future, but for now this really sours the experience.
An awesome little 30 minute mystery game I was able to stop it with 40 seconds left and the voice acting was well performed try it out if you enjoy short story driven games Badwolf approved Thank you for making this and Howl as One. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6NoicsLREY
Game good, a short and sweet tightly-written sci-fi mystery.
Might be interesting but when I left the brig it just became a black screen :(
+ Plays on Linux + Free + Fully voice acted + Multiple endings 0 minimalist design means there are only two rooms, the rest are just doors. The storytelling brings an interesting workaround to this though (you will see if you play the game yourself). - Short, even after a few restarts from (the save point at) the bridge.
