Chilling Silence

The developer clearly has the talent for level design and retro modeling, but it seems to be the only good thing about the game, the story is not good, the sound design is not good, the gameplay is not good, everything else will require more experience, which is fine, I think everyone has to start somewhere, but the game is just not worth playing. It's a 30 minute story so not much of a game to begin with, and a very glitchy one with potential softlocks, poor item interactions, and a ton of clipping into the walls. Even if the developer manages to fix all the bugs, the game is honestly a nothing burger, there was nothing compelling about the narrative or the writing, and the few jump scares it has mostly fail because of poor sound design, or the lack of it. It's not a traditional survival-horror, more of a linear narrative game - it has no combat, just walking and picking up a few items, very rarely you might have to dodge a few monsters that just feel like lifeless 3D models. Even though I think the game is okay, it is not worth $12CAD. It'd be better if it was $3-4CAD or even free. I like the aesthetic and atmosphere. Everything else is either mediocre or just bad. -There is barely any gameplay so it just feels like its a walking sim with the rare e to interact. -The horror is immediately sucked away due to meh sound design, immersion breaking things (awkward pauses that come up before "chase" sequences) , and being unable to see whatever the monster is without having to actively investigate. -The story is fine... I think. I wouldn't be able to tell because sometimes the game would skip dialogue or it would become a word scramble. -I didn't really run into bugs outside of phasing through objects (specific door that is close to school entrance, bookshelves in the school), E not working on doors making me have to reapproach them, and the game stalling during the janitor closet part making me unable to move. I don't really care about bugs but they do break immersion. -The inventory system is only needed to be used once in the entire game so what is the point in having it. You play as Nina, a young girl whose parents are constantly fighting, leaving her with little to do besides going to school with her best friend. One morning, however, her friend is not waiting outside the apartment building. When you arrive at school, you find a detective investigating the disappearance. The visual style is a key part of the experience. The game captures a classic Soviet atmosphere, complete with towering apartment blocks, cold and foggy weather, and a muted gray color palette. What makes it stand out is the pixelated presentation, which gives the impression that it was made decades ago. The controls follow the old “tank” style. Pressing left or right turns the character in place, while pressing up or down moves her forward or backward. The controls are closely tied to the cinematic camera, which shifts angles automatically as you move around. Gamepad support is only partial. You can move, but you cannot interact. As a right now the game has a lot of glitches, but I'm still looking forward to play it when the bugs are fix. As right now I can not play the game it crash a lot.

More Russian shovelware, this time a 30 minute long walking sim/adventure-lite with game mechanics from Alone in the Dark (remember how awkward that was to play on PC?) and visuals not so different from that original X-Box game, too... it looks like crap and plays worse. The Russian translation is garbage tier, Google Translate should be ashamed of itself. There's the odd jumpscare. The game is deeply unpleasant to play and full of bugs, glitches, clipping problems. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game assets here look a lot better than the actual game they're assembled on... that doesn't mean this is necessarily an asset flip or a kitbash, because there's no proof. A short but enjoyable experience! The English translation is a bit off, but you still get the gist of the story. I really love the style the creator is going for here, however I think more time should've been put toward the plot of the story. The ending feels a bit rushed, but as this is their first work I think that's perfectly fine. There's plenty of room for improvement when it comes to future works!
