This game smacks

My hard drive broke at the start of last year and for a while I was only able to play smaller games, so I stocked up on a tonne of indie rogue-likes that just so happened to include this one.
Chorus of the Night kept me very entertained for the 10 hours I played of it. It keeps the visual style to a minimum but makes up for it in a well rounded bullet heaven experience. Movement feels tight, the EXP system and attacks feel satisfying and the loop is addictive, which is the main thing a rogue-like should strive for in my opinion. I love the creativity behind the enemies and bosses and I like that it can be a difficult game. There are definitely certain builds that kick more ass than others, but it was still fun to mess around with different abilities and weapons! The music feels like an afterthought, but it's still enjoyable. I was sort of hoping for something more "rock" focused, like the rest of the game is, but what we got is still good enough. My only real gripe is that I wish there was more to do here. The achievement list is very short, and again, I put 10 hours into this. For the low price point this game goes for, this is honestly gre…

Yet another bullet heaven title following Vampire Survivors' footsteps, this time one with a messy but enjoyable music theme, with weapons and enemies based on musical instruments, MP3 players and more. Upgradeable dashes, manual reloads and a generally fast pacing give this game its own identity even beyond the visuals, but unfortunately there's also plenty of issues as of now. The variety and content are currenty way roo low, the MS Paint-esque graphics are hit and miss, the late game features extremely small projectile-based attacks that are hard to read. And in general, I finished the game's only map on my 4th attempt or so, with currently only grindy weapons and some upgrades to build towards. It's fun for what it is, but I can't recommend it until more content is added and some of the issues are fixed. Bullet Heaven Fandom review #13. You can launch guitar amps at your enemies, what more could you want?

Death by musical instruments! (Insofar both the music slaps and well, one fell on my head.) I know I'm into a game when I'm super focused for the duration of the run and this game's tension amps up smoothly. Worth the buy!

pro - short and easy but still good fun for a small price cons - some of the main weapons are a little boring , but it was nice to try them all (still not many builds possible in here) neutral - if you like the genre go for it knowing is a small one
