About Clam Man 2: Open Mic

CLAM MAN 2: OPEN MIC

is the prologue to the upcoming Clam Man 2, a stand-up comedy RPG adventure, and the first day in a week of jokes, quests, and saying a lot of really odd things. It's a combatless, narrative RPG that takes you on an unlikely quest in a very unlikely world. Play as the titular Clam Man and uncover a secret lurking in the basement of Snacky Bay Prime Mayonnaise that will change the course of your life! Do quests, get jokes, and do stand-up!

If any of that sounds remotely interesting, give the game a shot! It's free! You've got nothing to lose!
Here's some of the other things you can do in this game;
 • Faint in an attempt to get out of public speaking
 • Lie to a child
 • Talk to a prehistoric beast
 • Cause an earthquake
 • Get run over and die
 • Do standup

THE GAME JUDGES WHO YOU ARE

Seven different stats dictate your abilities;
 • Aquadynamics - your ability to perform physically!
 • Improv - your ability to think on the spot, be strange and absurd, or come up with new takes or ideas!
 • Detection - your ability to perceive the world and use logic to understand it!
 • Assertion - your ability to tell people off and convince them that you're right!
 • Deadpan - your ability to keep your cool and lie!
 • Luck - I had to put this in here and now everyone specs all their points into Luck
 • Self-Awareness - your ability to empathise with others and yourself (or not)!

TONS OF DIALOGUE

If you're averse to lots of reading, this might get tricky - Clam Man 2 has a LOT of branching dialogue, offering tons of replayability! Dialogues also feature tons of static skill checks that only unlock with the right stats; if a conversation only has a couple of available response options, chances are that other outcomes and absurdities hide behind a different character build!

GATHER MATERIALS

In order to do stand-up, you need jokes! In Clam Man 2, quests are character-based with choices to be made and errands to be run, and finishing a quest rewards you with material you can use in your shows! Every quest has multiple endings, and depending on your choices, the resulting joke loot will change, and it's impossible to see even half of all the jokes in a single playthrough! (Completionists beware - it could take around six fully optimized runs to see everything in the game!)

GET ON STAGE

Each joke you receive from quests will measure your abilities, with classic RPG dice rolls. High stats and the right joke makes all the difference! Succeeding will give you multiple options of where you want to take the joke, and even failing will allow you to choose your destiny in a spiraling maelstrom of stuttering, awkwardness, and pure bad taste. Will you land every joke, or will you bomb your way through your shows?

NO FIGHTING

Clam Man 2 is a narrative RPG, with zero combat! (Apart from a part where you can slap a guy in the face.) Furthermore, bombing jokes doesn't lead to a game over - instead, it leads to changes in how characters perceive you, with larger ramifications on the story in the full game! Oh, and you'll also be embarrassing yourself on stage.

YOU ONLY GET A TASTE

Clam Man 2: Open Mic is the entire first day of the full game currently in development, but even so has tons of quests, characters, and dialogue to see! The full game is currently in development, and the response to this will determine the direction, changes, and style of the final game! Every single Steam review will be read to gather feedback!

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS

Clam Man 2 is being developed by a solo developer, who is very, very tired. You can follow the development on twitter!

Recommended “Comedy is hard. Being a clam is harder.” Clam Man 2: Open Mic blends light RPG elements, choice‑driven storytelling and comedy, all wrapped in a world of sea creatures with very human problems. Clam Man drops you into a world where every character is a sea creature with more emotional baggage than an airport carousel, and somehow it works. The story is simple, the jokes miss more often than they land and the voiced dialogue carries the whole thing like a very determined shrimp. Gameplay is basically: Make a choice Pray to the dice gods Watch your life fall apart or somehow improve It’s not D&D, but the dice still wake up every morning choosing violence. You play as Clam Man, an aspiring comedian trying to impress the Triad — three basement‑dwelling stand‑up gurus who each have their own philosophy on how to win over the audience. Your job is to pick jokes, survive social interactions, watch everyone’s reaction and pretend you know what you’re doing. The best part? Failure isn’t a punishment. Botch a roll? Pick the wrong option? Accidentally insult someone? The game just shrugs and sends you down a different path. Even in this…

Enjoyable and silly little game. The dice rolls make it funny regardless of whether its a good or bad result. I enjoyed being the Clam Man and finally getting up on stage. Will be checking out the first Clam Man and definitely the continuation of Clam Man 2 when it drops.

Good bones for a short demo-like play. Interested to see where it goes. Would play more days, but probably wouldn't replay day 1. I'll toss in my 2 cents for the Devs-
Start : make everything go slightly faster- like walking speed, dialogue branching, and dice rolling. use color-coding or additional visual identifiers to clarify which dialogue choices are low/high probability vs. just playful jesting. Sometimes, I wasn't exactly sure what the conversation was trying to achieve. I like the interactive set, but at times I wasn't sure what I was looking for and would've appreciated a visual toggle for 'interactive' elements (outline, glimmer, etc). Keep : social commentary- like work burnout, bitter neighbors, jaded employees, playful kids, questioning gender norms/bias, estranged families, economic hardship, awkwardly talking to strangers, etc. I enjoyed that the main character isn't good at everything- the min/max suggestion during character creation paired with the typical conversation cues made them feel suitably average and relatable. I could see how different player types could enjoy differing personalities, too. Yield : the evil car 'bit' was odd, as was 'dying'.…

came from the original clam man, but I don't think you need the context to appreciate this game the humor definitely lands for me some of the bits had me cackling also the gameplay is definitely a step up from the first game and I can see why the full game is taking a little while

Clam Man 2: Open Mic is an unconventional role-playing adventure that proves a game does not need combat, sprawling worlds, or complex progression systems to leave a lasting impression. Developed and published by Sideby Interactive, this standalone prologue introduces players to a bizarre yet surprisingly relatable underwater world where personal ambition, awkward social encounters, and stand-up comedy take center stage. From the opening moments, the game embraces absurdity with confidence, creating an experience that feels refreshingly different from most modern RPGs. The story follows Clam Man, a seemingly ordinary employee stuck in a repetitive office job and searching for something more meaningful in life. A strange discovery sends him on a journey that gradually shifts his focus from workplace routine to the possibility of becoming a comedian. While the premise sounds intentionally ridiculous, the narrative contains an underlying sense of sincerity. Themes of self-discovery, career dissatisfaction, and the fear of pursuing one's dreams give the adventure an emotional core that balances its constant stream of jokes. The game succeeds because it never relies solely on comedy; b…
