Crab Attack

This is a fantastic game but do not go in expecting a typical shmup. The core gameplay is a shmup and it does get hectic but it has branching pathways that require multiple stage playthroughs and I'd say progressive weapon and puzzle solving that reminded me of if Zelda was a shmup. Love this game. Very much worth it!

A fantastic crest-like (item/skill/ability gated level based exploration) SHMUP, I have really enjoyed my time with this game so far! I think you should give this one a try if you enjoy SHMUPs, crest-likes, or even Metroidvanias. You play through levels with arcing pathways that need to sometimes be discovered or unlocked, while collecting materials and blueprints to upgrade your craft (crab) and tool-set. These can come from mini-bosses and bosses, puzzles, secrets, a special enemy or group, and of course manipulating enemies and the environment with your current abilities. I'm a purist when it comes to these types of games so I'm sure I'll have plenty more hours after this review. The dev is responsive and has been updating the game with tuning, QOL improvements, and bug fixes. Well worth the purchase.

Cute crab and a girl saving the world? WHAAA-? I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. I'll be honest, I am not the biggest fan of SHMUP's, but CRAB ATTACK is such a mixture of genre's that it makes it one of a kind. Difficulty steadily rises through the levels, so there is not a spike anywhere until [spoiler] you hit the last level [/spoiler] . I played on "Normal" but it also has an "Iron Man" mode that I am more than eager to try and see how I can route out a run. That is the fun thing about this game, you have so many ways to approach some levels (although there are parts where you need specific items), but you basically have 4 weapons and a SUPER that you can use to your advantage and alter your play style accordingly. Crab Attack is a wonderful project and well worth your money. It feels rewarding from start to finish.

Meh. It's another one of those Shoot 'Em Up. It's good though has the same issues as other games like these. All good on normal difficulty but if you play on the hardest difficulty, GL getting past the second stage. If you don't want a frustrating experience, just play it on normal. 6.5/10

What I find interesting about this game is the subversion of genre; what looks like a standard "shmup" at first is easily found to be a blending of at least three different genres that I've yet to see combined so distinctively. A shmup from the view of the surface. An adventure game (kind of on-rails) once you start to learn it. And then a puzzle game, which balances out the natural physical reflex nature of shmups, originally. It's pretty hard though too so be warned. A great little game that's a unique and interesting package, very different in areas, but familiar enough to pick up and play easily.
