Cranks and Goggles captures the charm and drama of vintage 1920s-30s Grand Prix racing with appealing aesthetics and engaging competitive gameplay that rewards skill progression. However, the game is hampered by significant technical issues including broken controller support on modern devices, poor analog stick and trigger implementation that makes cars overly difficult to control, AI pathing problems causing rivals to get stuck, and occasional audio glitches requiring restarts.
Cranks and Goggles is basically Formula One World Championships on the Pre-World War 1 1920s and 1930s ERA of Grand Prix Racing, it is fun, dramatic, competitive and funny moments when your rivals crash into you, you crash into your rivals to get vengence and revenge when you finished in 1st place at the top step on the podium to become World Champions. it is a brilliant world championship games.2 found this helpful
Controller support is completely broken on modern controllers like DS5 (I tried everything, was only able to get controller support working via dusting off an old DS4). The cars have very little traction and slide/spin very easily as one would expect from 1920's race cars, however the real issue with this is that you have no ability to change stick sensitivity and barely touching it turns your front tires all the way. There's also no analog trigger support for gas, so you're either flooring it or letting off entirely (I tried changing it and it refused to work with analog triggers). I was hoping for something relatively accurate to how race cars handled back then, but the poorly implemented analog support basically ruins what could have been a neat throwback.1 found this helpful
..Now This - Is Sim Racing!
Not a bad premise, just executed poorly. AI pathing is pretty much broken on most tracks where they clamber up the scenery and get stuck. Sound effects keep breaking and the only way to fix that is by restarting the game which is bothersome. All in all, it's not a bad game, and a decent little time killer. But a bit more spit 'n' polish wouldn't go amiss!
The controls are somewhat awkward, but then so were those of real cars in the 20s. Really though, you want to play it for the aesthetics, which are delightful.
great game, easy to learn, hard to master ! (should play on a controller)
