About Dark Crypt

Sneak past the undead

The dead have risen from their graves and haunt this crypt.
Move past them without being seen.

Teleport

You can't always just walk past the undead.
Place a teleport ahead of time and then teleport back to it.

Don't get caught!

You're defenseless. Your only weapon is your wits and the shadows.

Plan your moves

Dark Crypt is turn-based, you can take your time to plan and execute the moves.

What is Dark Crypt?

A turn-based puzzler with a teleporting mechanic about sneaking through an ancient crypt, while avoiding its traps and the undead.

The Story

The prophecy speaks of an ancient evil that slumbers within a crypt.
It foretells its awakening which will lead to our world being consumed by its dark shadow. Your brothers at the monastery dismiss it as a pagan heresy, however you know better than that.

The world's fate rests on your shoulders. It's up to you to find the slumbering evil and seal it, before it awakens. Can you save our world?

What awaits you

  • 60 challenging levels
  • Boss fights
  • Thinking with teleports
  • Infinite undos
  • Skeletons, Vampires, Spikes and more!
  • Retro-rendition of chill-inducing classical music

Great logical game! There are few simple rules and new game mechanics are explained gradually. Level design is what makes the game really challenging. Love the Linux port and controller support!

Becomes pretty challenging from half-way onward for a casual like me. 60 levels altogether; the first 20 are pretty straight-forward. I managed to solve another 10 levels below par but started skipping them after that (do not do that if you want an achievement for not skipping any levels - do them all in order or be prepared to start again!) New mechanics and enemy sentries are introduced gradually. Some enemies stand still and only look in one direction, some turn on the spot with every turn, others patrol in a pattern. Enemies have to be bypassed, as they cannot be attacked. Player character has a limited ability to mark a spot underfoot to teleport to it later. Some levels include vases that can be moved to hide behind. Every move can be undone without penalty unless the player character has reached the end of a level - after that levels can only be restarted from the beginning. There is a dedicated restart key to do so at will.

it's ok - 60 levels, nice graphics and music.

The game is exactly what was promised: a horror-themed, turn-based 2D puzzler. A lot of effort was put into the graphics and atmosphere of the game, even if they don't really blow you away. The story is minimal but effective. it adds a lot of personality to the game, and I ended up caring a lot more about the main character than I expected to by the end. The puzzles themselves become more and more complex as you progress through the game, but the 'undo' feature makes things manageable, and the game does a good job of forcing the player to learn newly introduced mechanics before using them in later, more complex puzzles. In terms of options and accessibility, Dark Crypt is very good. It has seperate sound options, a custom fps limit, multiple display options, mouse-navigable menus, and configurable controls for both keyboard and controller. In my (albeit limited) experience, most game at this price point ($4.99 at time of writing) don't even come close to this level of customization. Of course, Dark Crypt isn't perfect. The music, while thematically appropriate, is forgettable, and can even become grating during some of the more cognitively-demanding puzzles. But, what was easily …

A really fun turn-based stealth game with great pixel art! It gets pretty challenging, as can be seen by the number of times the poor old man got eaten by monsters or gored by spikes on my play through so far! If you enjoy stealth, puzzle, or turn-based games, definitely check this out!

It is a casual puzzler where the one aim is to escape the crypt while avoiding the enemies, throw in some lite sokoban elements and that is the whole game. The game looks good, sounds good but never really gets out of second gear, there were only 2 or 3 levels where I had to think, the other levels feel the same, the puzzles lack imagination ufff .... Look, it is not a bad game, there are some interesting ideas but doing the same thing over and over is just not fun nor rewarding. The game has enough PC options so a big plus for that. There is a story in this game and it is not a really good one but you can turn it off in the options, you see having options is a really good thing :) I would recommend this game to casual puzzle fans, not worth the asking price in my opinion.
