Depraved Awakening

Depraved Awakening is made by one of my favorite AVN devs who also created the “City of Broken Dreamers” books and who puts a lot of work into the writing in his novels, and it really shows in all his work. This is an investigation-like detective story where you are the private eye trying to solve a bigger “unsolvable” case. You meet a lot of people and get to explore what dangers lie in the criminal underground of Free City. You of course meet a lot of women and it is up to you how you handle that. The adult content is all rough play, which is fine if you're into that, but it's not for me. The frequent offers to... hmm... do adult battery the player-character's step-daughter are not so fine, though. They're a huge turn-off, in fact.

1000% recommendation. Best noir detective AVN out there. Sex scenes were frequent and actually sexy as hell with the dirty talk dialogue between the MC and various women. Not a harem book, per se, but the MC has sex with 8-10 women (some of them multiple times) depending on in-game choices, the renders are nice (not perfect perfect, but very nice indeed). But perhaps better than the sex scenes was the dialogue -- which was unbelievably good. Characters were fleshed out, storyline and plot were not only comprehensible but as interesting and well-crafted as any novel I've read recently. If a newbie to the genre was asking me to recommend something, this would be in the top 5 for sure.

Great storyline and decent sex scenes. Loved the writing, but I disappointed/confused by the endings. It just doesn't feel like the endings really fit the relationships that were built during the game.

I picked up Depraved Awakening expecting a typical adult VN and ended up staying for the detective story. The noir atmosphere is easily the game's biggest strength. Playing as a washed-up private investigator digging into a suspicious death gives the whole experience a darker, more mature tone than most games in the genre. The mystery kept me interested throughout, and I genuinely wanted to see where the different choices would lead. The cast is another highlight. There are plenty of attractive women, but they all have their own personalities and roles in the story rather than feeling like they're only there for the adult content. The branching paths and multiple endings also give you a reason to replay and see different outcomes. Is it perfect? No. The pacing can be a little fast at times, and some of the dialogue feels slightly awkward. The adult scenes are also fairly simple compared to some newer VNs. But honestly, none of that stopped me enjoying it. If you're looking for a story-focused adult visual novel with a strong noir vibe, an interesting mystery, and choices that actually matter, Depraved Awakening is well worth checking out.
