About Devil's Dare 悪魔の挑戦

Devil's Dare is bloody a smash up parody of everything from the 90s, pitting the manliest video game heroes against the badest monsters from your favorite horror movies. It's the final result of what would happen if everyone from that decade came together to create a baby, a baby that just so happens to grow up to be a beat'em up.

Though it to be a casual beat'em up game. But turns out this is some souls like game. I managed to finish the game on my 3rd playthrough. As 1st and 2nd playthrough just for learning the mechanics, characters skills, & enemies pattern. To make the game easier/harder you can play this with your friends. Support up to 4 players via Remote Play Together. It was totally a fun game yet very punishing as game over can cause you to lose your save file. If you like retro beat'em up and up for a challenge you should definitely give this game a try.

In no way inspiring or interesting.

There are no redeeming features for this game, it didn't even work on Windows 10 without a whole lot of messing around with setting it to ignore fullscreen optimisations and putting it into Windows 7 compatibility mode. Then in the game an absolutely bizarre default control scheme (X as the confirm button??!?), no resolution options and fixed in a 4:3 aspect ratio. After sorting what I could out, picking characters and getting started, this badly-rip-off-golden-axe-em-up turned out to have one of the worst control systems I've encountered since the lag of the Stadia launch. No. No. No. Burn it with fire. I give this one 1 it's shortly going to be uninstalled out of 10.

This is a 2D retro pixel multiplayer arcade brawler/beat'em'up where you bash up a bunch of brown enemies with a traditional horror theme. The art style is inexplicably all grey and brown. Arcade games were always more colourful than that, so it's unclear what the point of making the already bad pixel "art" look even worse was. The control mappings are completely terrible, making it unclear if the developers ever saw a PC before. The art style here is just a fail. Retro pixel graphics are not an acceptable copout when developers lack the talent or budget to arrange contemporary PC graphics.

Devil's Dare is a fun game in my opinion. It's a rogue-like that plays very similar to Scott Pilgram vs the World. At it's core, it is a beat-em up with four paths, yeilding sixteen levels plus the boss battles. I didn't find the game unfair, but it is challenging. After 8-hours, I had beaten the game a handful of times and seen both the good and bad ending. However, I last played this game back in 2015. Since then, Secret Base re-released this game as Streets of Red: Devils Dare Deluxe in 2019. Pick up that version of the game.
