Dimlight Dungeon is a dark fantasy dungeon crawler where the player controls a reptilian brawler and travels within the ruins of a once-mighty, heroic fortress. There the player must battle through rooms full of knights in order to reach the end throne.

Dimlight Dungeon is an action brawler. You play as a red monster, storming into a dungeon to presumably claim treasure and smash guards, and he’s all out of treasure. Whatever story exists here isn’t the point. The point is to charge through a dungeon, smashing and destroying along the way. The player is provided with three different smash options, though why I would ever use anything other than the punch option is unclear. Each punch stuns the enemy, making it trivially easy to win any fight by spamming the punch button, assuming the stars align and the hit boxes feel like being reasonable, or assuming an enemy doesn’t get stuck in a place where it can hit you without being hittable in return. Both are, of course, options. It’s exactly as fun as it sounds. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3329205565 Dimlight Dungeon is not a fun game for multiple reasons, some of which are by design, and some of which I think (hope) are accidental. Its level design is tedious at best. The red monster moves through similarly arranged level after similarly arranged level, spamming punch on identical enemies, getting stuck on the exit door, and repeating the process. Ther…

Not bad. In fact a lot better than many other Digipen games, but needs a lot of improvements Mark checkpoints on the floor/level There really isnt much incentive to use anything other things The towers doesnt do any damage, so why have them? Hit range can be inconsistent Stun shouldt last that long, makes it to easy I really like the artsyle tho

I had chosen my fate before my hiatus of reviews, and little did I know it would be such an impetuous return; despite the game's minuscule length, I was repeatedly interred by its simplicity and non-partisan cheese. Combat is a slippery slope of stun-locks and spacing; if ever I found myself in the top left quadrant of an enemies range, I was as good as dead. This difficulty was exacerbated by my lack of dashing vertically, and moreover the ergonomics of 'WASD' and L-Shift is given too much credit, although that's a feature of the broader culture that I don't necessarily fault you for. The game is a mash-fest beater, a style of Nerve gameplay that's actually quite fun the more mindless it becomes; scrawny gamers love to feel physically validated by Mario Party mini-games, but if those were to add so much as a movement component to those games, it quickly loses its flavor and becomes too precise for its own good. Landing combos on a group of enemies might do well to give even more control of the situation so as to feel less managerial and essential to survival, and enemies could be given better ranged options to counteract that control rather than steal it upfront. Running through…
