About Don't Get Bit

Don’t Get Bit is a turn-based strategy survival game.

Guide Cassie (and her companions) through 30 levels as they battle hordes of mutant zombies. Each map is unique, filled with new challenges requiring different strategies and skill, but no luck.

Featuring a haunting storyline, each level opens with Cassie sharing more of her story and the apocalyptic world around her.

Key Features:
  • Easy to learn, but challenging to master.
  • Control 4 Characters as you fight against 9 Zombie types.
  • No RNG (random number generation). Winning is all about skill and not luck.
  • Hand drawn sketches from graphic artist Katy Grubb.
  • Over 30 monologues from award-winning actress Kami Hinds.
  • An original score from Pete Mitchell of "No More Kings".

Second Journey: If you survive the 30 levels, you can play them again, only this time with a turn limit for each level - forcing new strategies and revealing a new ending.

Third Journey: Finish the Second Journey and you can play the game one last time, where every zombie bite is fatal - survive this time to discover the final ending.

Welp, this is a short puzzle game set in a zombie apocalypse - short at least for the first pass, repeating it on a set number of turns for a supposed true ending would probably more than double the 2-3 hour playtime, but repetition of this does not interest me... Decent voice acting, basic zombie story. It is ok. I recommend it if you like puzzle games, but not if you are looking for a tactical combat game.

It's alright. Definitely someone's first Unity project and it shows, but for what it is it's actually very good.

Don't Get Bit is definitely a hidden gem! It is a zombie turn based strategic game in which you play as Cassie, a sarcastic 18 year old zombie survivor who is tasked with fighting zombies for 30 levels. What seems like a simple game at first eventually turns into a very strategic game the higher you go in level. However, whats nice about the game is as the story enfolds you eventually meet other characters that join your party in which it makes the game even more interesting from a strategic level in terms of how you should navigate each level and each zombie type. That being said each level is crafted really well with strategic challenges that you well need to overcome but is also fun at the same time depending on what characters are available for you to use in that level against the nine types of zombies. In addition, I also enjoyed how this game had a voice acted narrative for the story as you progressed through each level detailing the background of each level as you progressed. This alongside the challenging turn based combat and just overall theme really made me enjoy this game. (What's also nice is if you find any of the levels really difficult and need to skip them, you …

More puzzle solving than turned based strategy, as its a perfect information game with no RNG element. Still the voice acting carries the story, and the three runs through with different victory conditions and different endings give some variety. But you won't play it through more than once. Still, well worth the $1 or so I paid for it.

Alrighty! I have some slightly complicated feelings. I'll get the negatives out of the way first, seeing as they are mostly nitpicks. -Holy hell the second two campaigns are HARD. I had to skip to the end using the cheat, and considering how long the last level took me, I shudder to think how difficult the rest of the game would be (especially as the first campaign was already quite tricky.) -The lack of animations is very jarring. So much effort and care was clearly put into the game but the fact that everything just snaps from place to place makes it feel almost cheap, which it clearly isn't. -The lack of any way to easily see how far zombies can see/hear you from is a major problem. It's a tactical game, but the lack of easily accessible data means that I oftentimes simply learnt how to beat each individual level rather than try to fully understand the actual enemies. -I kind of wish there was more? Like more story, maybe a sequel in the future. As for positives, -Zombie story that is sad without being overly nihilistic! One of the endings is even genuinely happy! I got invested in the characters and even when/if they die, it feels earned and not just a cheap gut pun…
