A cute game that takes a little getting used to, but once you get the idea down it's pretty fun. The main randomly generated levels are decently challenging, though mostly if you rush. The bosses can get pretty tough (so far I've gotten to the third of four and was not able to make much of a dent), but as you get the coins to buy more costumes and other power-ups it definitely makes things easier. Ultimately, I would say that if the idea of a cute, but challenging, roguelike sounds fun, give this game a shot.

Down the Drain is a cute, simple roguelike that boils genre-essential mechanics down to their basics. It appears to be the first project from a new indie dev duo, and I applaud them for launching their first game - it's a huge accomplishment! As of the time of this writing, I'm unable to recommend the game, as I feel it has a variety of mechanical and presentational issues that prevent it from realizing its full potential. I'm hopeful that the developer will continue to refine and polish the game, and assuming they do, I'll be happy to revisit and revise my review. The overarching mechanics are all present and familiar: short, repetitive runs through procedurally-generated levels populated by randomized enemies; progress through the levels, defeat enemies, collect currency, and upgrade your abilities over the course of numerous attempts. The presentation is simplistic but consistent - the color palette is restrained, and the avoidance of textures, while basic-looking, does make environments easy to navigate. Animations tend to consist of only a few frames, which can be effective if presented well. Music is a bit of a mixed bag - it varies from your run-of-the-mill MIDI-inspired …

A fun and cute rougelite with a lot of love and charm. The movement mechanic is part of the challenge and learning curve of the game. Bosses are challenging, but beatable after learning their moveset. The progression of Marta makes the game easier as time goes on, so make sure to nab those upgrades and outfits. Plus pirate Marta is best Marta -- fight me. The soundtrack is also great.

Not being an experienced gamer, this game is challenging enough to be fun but easy enough to control and navigate. Definitely gets addicting!!

Challenging and fun! Recommend if you want something different! For the developer's first game, it isn't a bad choice if you want to support a small first-timer!
