Eternam

I couldn't believe it when I found it! Yes, ratings will be skewed in by that nostalgia. All the good, the bad, the funny and all the annoying gameplay elements have been preserved and restored exactly how you remember them. I would love nothing more than to see a modern developer remake and/or reboot this IP. The closest thing I can think of that this is like, would have to be Westworld--the other parks, not the wild west park. The story is still quirky & unique and the scope is still ambitious, I can only imagine what this gem could blossom into with some modern TLC.

Not going to recommend this one, sorry. Eternam does some very cool things, like recycling the engine from Drakkhen to shape an open world adventure, but after a very interesting start (with probably the best jokes) the rest of the game is far from being as polished and requires insane backtracking (with no signposts) and features insane dead ends/soft locks. It deflates tragically and it ends somehow with no sense of achievement.

I guess I'm just not a fan of old style adventure games, and this one is one of them. Too much random and frustrating point & clicking.

Eternam is the kind of retro adventure that immediately reveals how experimental PC gaming could be in the early 1990s. Rather than settling into one recognizable genre, it combines graphic adventure mechanics, exploration, comedy, science fiction, historical parody, and early 3D sequences into a remarkably strange package. Originally developed by Infogrames and currently published by Ziggurat, it is best approached as a preserved piece of gaming history. Its technology is obviously primitive by modern standards, but the imagination behind it remains surprisingly distinctive. The adventure follows Don Jonz, an intergalactic Space Marshal who travels to Eternam expecting a well-earned vacation. Eternam is essentially a gigantic planetary amusement park containing artificial recreations of different periods in human history. Instead of enjoying the attractions peacefully, Don discovers that his old enemy Mikhal Nuke and the remaining Dragoons have turned the vacation destination into another dangerous assignment.
