A jar full of potential with too many technical and narrative cracks
Your fairy self wakes up trapped in a glass jar, sitting on some stranger’s desk, surviving on daily wheat and quiet suspicion. He doesn’t seem hostile, but the situation screams “this won’t end normally”. Add a handful of mysterious artifacts sharing the room and here is the premise that caught instantly my attention. But I’m conflicted here. The pixel art is gorgeous and the whole RPGMaker atmosphere works fine for this kind of small narrative experiment. The environment barely changes, yet it still manages to tell a story through subtle visual shifts. The menu presentation is also surprisingly polished, and with 4 endings plus clear achievements (with help from Google Translate or the community guide), there’s at least a structure pushing you to explore outcomes. Unfortunately, the technical issues destroys the experience for English players. The game requires installing the external RPG Maker VX Ace Run Time Package just to launch properly, and even then the localization is horrible since dialogue text frequently overflows the frame, cutting l…

It’s a bit chaotic reading reviews calling this ‘pure love’, love for what, exactly? Falling in love with someone who trapped you in a jar?? I enjoyed the game and the illustrations, but I’m honestly confused by the fact that all the good endings revolve around the fairy falling in love with her kidnapper. If she’s scared and tries to escape, she ends up with a bad ending, sometimes even being killed. If the game was intended to have an educational angle, like warning people not to trust strangers and that would make sense. But instead, it feels like it’s designed to make players believe and trust their kidnapper/stranger just to survive, which can send a very misleading message, especially to younger players. I’m not too sure what the creators were trying to convey here, but it left me conflicted. That said, the game itself is well-made. I just find the way the endings are framed and the way some reviewers are reacting quite toxic, regardless of what actually happened in the story.

A charming little story full of twists and turns. I wouldn't want to spoil anything, so I'll keep my praise short. I wasn't expecting to get so thoroughly swept-up in the game's narrative, but the next thing I knew a few hours had passed, just like other times when I'd found a good book that I couldn't put down. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. It sounded like such a simple idea when I read the store page's description, and yet it kept surprising me. Interesting world. Interesting characters. Interesting choices. I recommend it to anyone with an itch for discovery and a free afternoon. This is a great little adventure. Now, TO THE DEVELOPERS/CREATORS of this game, I would just like to mention a couple areas for a few small improvements that could be made for the English translated version: First, the overall translation into English is good, and most of the time the writing flows pretty well. There are a few strange parts where the language used sounds strange, like something from Google Translate instead of something written by a native English speaker. This is not a big issue though, because it all still makes enough sense to be able to follow al…

Got this game cause I was curious what the story was gonna play out and I just left disappointed and confused. I didn't understand what I was supposed to do get the other endings since the game doesn't really give you much leeway outside of a handful of choices and I didn't feel like admiring my captor to get a "good" ending. I'm sure people who fantasize about fairies in jars falling in love with their captors are going to find some joy in this but I don't think anyone outside that demographic will care.

Fairy in a Jar, developed by 鸬鹚鱼塘 and published by Eternal Dream and 迷糊的安安, is a short but hauntingly beautiful narrative game that blends fairy-tale melancholy with minimalist design and emotional storytelling. It opens with a mysterious premise: a tiny fairy awakens inside a glass jar, stripped of memory and freedom, confronted by an unknown human presence who watches from beyond the glass. From this deceptively simple setup, the game unfolds as a quiet meditation on captivity, innocence, and the blurred lines between affection and control. The player’s role is less that of an active participant and more an observer or conscience, guiding the fairy through a confined but emotionally charged space where small choices shape the story’s outcome. At its heart, Fairy in a Jar is more about atmosphere than mechanics. The player navigates the confines of a small environment, interacting with objects, uncovering fragments of memory, and making choices that gradually reveal the nature of the fairy’s imprisonment. Each decision carries subtle moral weight—whether to seek escape, empathy, or understanding of the captor—and leads to one of several endings that recontextualize the story’s me…

Worth it for the gorgeous pixel art alone. The story was interesting, though the translation isn't great. There's a nice dose of Grimms fairytale darkness to it.
