About Father´s Island

Father´s Island is a mystical, surreal visual novel with a B-Movie twist in a 3D open world, where the player has to solve the mystery of his own wrongful conviction 5 years earlier. An abandoned island with buildings, structures and relics, wildlife and strange machinery has to be explored while being haunted by memories from the past.

ATTENTION: Please do not purchase unless your PC meets the minimum specs. Even then you will experience quite long loading time before the journey begins. We will keep optimising the game, but right now the minimum specs are required to play smooth on "low" GFX settings and can result in 5+ minutes of loading time at the start.

  • Huge, open, living world to explore
  • Dozens of buildings and structures
  • Dynamic soundtrack reacting to players mood and surroundings
  • 4 different endings
  • Hours of video-, audio, on-screen storytelling

Intro, in the player character´s words:

"I am John Richards, and I am innocent. I spent the last years in the Providence state prison for a crime I hadn´t committed. Armed robbery and assault, Christmas eve 2009, a convenience store right outside the town where I used to live. Hell, I was a high school teacher then, and yeah, I didn´t earn much, but robbery? No . I spent the night 80 miles away in my cabin, my private retreat for holidays, working on exams and exercises for my pupils. Alone. A pretty bad Alibi, especially as they had me on tape. Not only my face, clearly visible, hard to mistake for another ones, they had also my DNA all over the place..."

5 years later, recently released from prison, John Richards starts to explore an island along the coast-side of New England. A priest had disclosed its location to him, pointing out that there he will find all the answers he is looking for.

Trying to get hold of whoever had framed him, the player starts his journey to an island where almost everything is familiar, yet there is nothing he can remember exactly. Two square miles of beautiful landscape, strange architecture, abandoned buildings and structures, mountains, forests and even small lakes are waiting to be examined - while fighting the demons of the past coming as nasty flashbacks and buried memories.

Are you really sure you are alone out here?

This game has rough graphics, bad sound design, bad pacing, poor game play, bugs and overall is an amateur effort. So why don't I hate it? The story is supremely stupid and the acting is fair to middling, but its one of those games where, in my humble opinion, you can get some laughs out of it. It's extremely short and I imagine you could speed run it in less than 20 minutes but I can't bring myself to hate or even dislike it really. Its quaint and earnest, almost rustic. It never reaches anywhere near its potential, but if you squint you might just catch the odd glimpse of what it wanted to be here and there. To be honest, don't buy this game. But if like me you like the absurd, amateur and earnest....well, its only the price of a coffee.

Short disclaimer: to enjoy this game, you need to understand Ivan's sense of humor and his love for Op. Paperclip conspiracy theory plots. See ''Into the Dark'', to get a taste, in a more gamey envoirment. This is a beautiful mess, and if the story had some game mechanics to it, I'd play the ever-lovin' ♥♥♥♥ out of it. It's almost nonsense, and it takes itself just serious enough to be really funny. The GameGuru engine has a disadvantage for the game developer, in that I can glitch myself up just about anything vaguely slanted, so I don't know where some of the keys are. Okay, the takeaway is as follows: lower your expectations. Lower. LOWER. There you go. What's here is enjoyable, you just need to be in the mindset. But what do I know, I loved Into the Dark.
