About Fiend Heart

Eliza, the agile vampire girl lives alone in her castle, until one night she received unexpected guests and so, the opportunity to interact with other monster girls awaits. Avoid the obstacles and enemies with acrobatics moves as your progress your way through your castle and talk with a monster girl at the end of each level.

This game offers:

  • Easy controls let you jump, airdash, slide, backflip, walljump and attack all over the place.
  • 7 levels with obstacles, each one more difficult than the previous one
  • Enjoy funny interactions with the 7 monster girls at the end of each level.
  • Frame by frame drawn animation.
  • Sountrack entirely composed by me with love.
  • Play as a cute red head vampire.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's charming character design, cute aesthetics, and earnest passion from the developer, with some enjoying the final boss fight and overall experience. However, most criticize the core gameplay for relying too heavily on projectile spam and luck rather than skill-based strategy, with the short length and mediocre platforming mechanics failing to stand out in an oversaturated market of 2D platformers on Steam.

Gameplay-wise I can't recommend this game really, because it feels to me like too many projectiles-spamming and more luck-based than actual using strategy for solving the levels (except for the last boss-fight, there you needed to follow a special pattern for winning), but I will still give it a positive review for it's cute charms, sweet end (story) and because it's free. I loved in my childhood Count Duckula and seeing a female version is a plus point in my eyes. Her roundhouse-kick attacks and the nudity-tag was really goofy to me though (they are not nude at all, just walking around in skimpy outfits and the last boss in a bikini). It's very short, but because I got annoyed by all those masses of projectiles in the last levels I'm glad for finally finishing this game.

Thousands of retro 2D platformers are infesting Steam, and "Fiend Heart" is just more pollution in a crowded market of terrible games. There are over 17,000 platformers on Steam, literally thousands (you can go see for yourself if you search for the platformer tag on the store, I'm not kidding). And this is far from being one of the best of those. This is a pretty mediocre platformer, it's short and doesn't have much going for it to the point I thought maybe it's a joke game or something? Anyway the subject is a red haired vampire girl who has to do some platforming, with the objective of talking to a house guest at the end of each of the seven levels. Yeah, this is a terrible hook for a game. The platforming genre is pretty much obsolete... just a tiny number of professionally developed platformers exist on PC and offer any real value or interest to gamers (Silksong, etc). This is nowhere near being as good as Hollow Knight or Silksong. Even without a price tag, it's easy to see why gamers ignored this in favor of modern, professionally developed 3D games. This is offering nothing new or interesting, so it's easy to see why this failed. This feels more like a tech demo…

This game is so bad, yet so earnest in a good way... it's a poor game, make no mistake here. I was enjoying it for the wrong reasons: everything is so bad yet clearly passionate. I mostly abused my character's health to tank damage and complete areas before I ran out of invincibility and health. I feel like this developer clearly has talent or at least some potential for talent but the game is just not good enough in any way but I respect the passion and the right direction this game has. It's a silly game in a good way, shame the game turns out to be poor. It was amusing and I constantly giggled at how bad this game is. It was, in the end, fun but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really in some peculiar mood or mindset for this kind of experience. Fun fact: it makes sense that the player's character is pretty tanky and fast, it's a vampire, after all. But I don't think this should warrant my "unintentional" playstyle and cheesing through the levels just because you're skilled enough to pull it off.
