About Forgotten Mines

A fantasy tactical roguelite RPG. Small in scale, grand in depth, replayability, and challenge.

One millennium has passed since an excavation found the gates of hell in the mines of Dorvgrad, and the under-Earth became glutted with monsters. As their leader, seek revenge with the united might of the dwarven clans, and return the Forgotten Mines to the Dwarven Kingdom, the rightful keeper.

Reclaim Your Lost Mines

With limited turns and the threat posed by over 50 enemy types and bosses, you must learn to adapt to unpredictable situations in each journey through the vast mine network. Think smart, take risks, and develop strategies for the next challenging run.

Customize Your Warriors

Mighty axe-wielders. Agile rogues with rapid daggers. Wise mages harnessing the arcane. These are just three of dozens of unique and specialized warrior classes to unlock and put to the test in the brutal underworld. Experiment with different combinations of warriors in your quest to assemble the perfect team for the perfect run.

Class selection is just the tip of the iceberg. Delve deeper into customization with a vast selection of equipment to unlock and use to modify your warriors. Weapons, armor, accessories, artifacts; each unique piece of gear can be swapped in and out to give your warriors distinct attributes and bonuses. As the dwarven leader, fine-tuning and preparing your fearsome team ahead of each run is essential if the correct heads are to roll.

A Punishing Descent

Dwarves don’t go down without a fight.

With powerful foes, dynamically changing environments, and few turns to enact revenge, your quest to reclaim the mines is built to challenge and punish. Your will to persevere is sure to be tested, but with strategic thinking, team-tinkering, and tactical finesse, the thrill and rewards of success are always within reach.

Hardened dwarven leaders can push themselves even further with the unlockable Descent Mode, bringing merciless modifiers to each run that will test even the best of the best.

I like playing games on the hardest difficulties, but with this game it feels like you're not meant to play Hard difficulty until after unlocking a bunch of upgrades. Here are some examples of what the first fight can look like on Normal vs. Hard difficulty to show what I mean Normal Difficulty: 5 Mountain Hounds, they have 2 movement and 1 Action Point, so they can't move and attack in the same turn. The enemy has 5 total AP. The arena is filled with boulders you can use to protect yourself and limit how many can attack you at once. Hard Difficulty: 2 Hounds and 4 Dire Bats. The bats have 3 movement, fly over obstacles, have 2 AP, and slightly higher stats than the hounds. The enemy has 10 total AP. You can't use the terrain to limit how many enemies you fight at once, and the bats are only slightly weaker than you while outnumbering you. Loading screens feel a bit long. In between rooms you can get events and the text is. painfully. slow. There. is. no. option. to. speed. it. up. in. the. settings. I play on a laptop, and had to turn the FPS down because at 60 fps my laptop would overheat and shut down. This isn't rare, it happens to me in a lot of games, but this is the only …

Well, I've beaten the game on Hard with an a Kobold team, so the only remaining feats I have are finishing the game on higher descent modes, some of which seem borderline impossible. With this in mind, I think I know enough about the game to give it a fair judgment. There's a lot of fun to be had here, especially at the price point. Most of the classes in the game are distinct enough to add replay value, and because of all the roguelite bells and whistles, there's already quite a bit of replayability here. It can be very satisfying to scale into the later levels and pull off a run against all odds. My main problem is that there's a bit too much luck for my liking. The first thing I would've changed is the randomized "traits" at the beginning of each run. What's the point of these? Some traits are outright debilitating, like the -1 movement one, while others, like the -3 xp trait, barely make a difference at all. There's just way too much variance involved, and since you can just restart runs to roll for desirable traits, I question the need to even have this system. Then you have certain room layouts. Given that battles take place in extremely close quarters, it's often t…

Fun flash game. Most would get 20 hours or so out of it. The secret boss is a little frustrating; requiring too much RNG to succeed.

It's pretty good. Scratches that nostalgia fix for an old school rpg. Wish the party size could be bigger than 3 members but It probably wouldn't be as challenging that way.
