About Frozen Shelter

Frozen Shelter is a first-person indie walking simulator game made in realistic 3D graphics. As a location, the player will be presented with a bunker built during the Cold War of the USSR. The fascinating atmosphere of loneliness will put pressure on the player throughout the game.

Background:

The events take place in an alternative modern Russia. The epidemic that killed half of the world's population forced people to hide in bunkers. Over time, food and water supplies began to run out. Gradually, hunger began to drive people crazy. Fear and misunderstanding of how to live on pressed on them more and more every day. One day the situation escalated so much that the only right decision was to escape and try to find food at the top.

Plot:

The main character is a resident of one of the bunkers, an engineer who monitors the serviceability of equipment and eliminates its breakdowns. During the general escape, he was busy repairing one of the main elements of the bunker's life support. By giving people another chance, he missed the opportunity to get out himself. Now he has to leave the bunker using engineering ingenuity.
The player will need to explore the bunker of the Soviet Union, interacting with all the small objects on the location.
As he progresses, he will need to solve puzzles, pass mini-games, monitor the body temperature of the main character and immerse himself in the history of each resident who left this bunker

Frozen Shelter is, at first, a confusing game. It doesn’t explain its objectives very well at the beginning, basically only providing the general context: the world on the surface has fallen into chaos, and underground shelters are used in order to survive. The problem is that the resources in these shelters are limited, which caused panic among people, who began searching for a way out. From there, your main objectives emerge: staying warm by fixing the generator and adding wood to the furnace, and finding a way to escape to the surface. The gameplay loop is focused on puzzles and mini-games that are quite enjoyable. The visuals are beautiful, although the animations feel somewhat dated. The campaign is very short, lasting less than an hour. The game offers a unique take on the horror genre. It’s not the kind of game that constantly tries to scare you with cheap jumpscares or ghosts; instead, it leans into psychological and existential horror. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s quite memorable and does a good job of delivering what it sets out to do. Scary Level: 1/5 | Game Rating: 7/10 [code] [b] ---- Check out my curator page to discover more horror games: [url=https://sto…

I don't want to hate on this game pointlessly, so I’ll explain the issues I encountered in more detail. - First off, this isn’t really a walking simulator like the description suggests. It leans more towards a puzzle/story game, which was unexpected. - The game lacks proper guidance. From the beginning, I had trouble figuring out what I was supposed to do. For example, in the kitchen section, I was clicking around randomly until I realized I needed to find potatoes. Even after searching everywhere, I was left confused about what else to do, leading to unnecessary deaths. - Speaking of deaths, the freezing mechanic is frustrating. If the game was intended to be a walking simulator, the ability to die feels out of place. - The key-making minigame is especially annoying. You can't move left or right, which makes it unnecessarily difficult and tedious. I lost count of how many times I died just because I was stuck on this part. I bought this game expecting a walking simulator with puzzle elements, but the lack of clear direction and frustrating mechanics made it more irritating than enjoyable. I even had to watch videos to figure out what to do at certain points. Carefully …

I'd say the game is fine. For a relatively small environment, there are quit the few things you'll be able to click on. But as to what you'll need to do to continue the story can be almost random guess work. They are only a handful for the story. Including one important component that's tucked in, blended and camouflaged. For a small game the environment is well detailed. The oddest part isn't however, is the weird armband tool. It doesn't fit with the rest of the game. Environment 1950-ish, Tool 2020.
