About Getting Canceled

You have finally gotten a job, despite your useless degree.

Now it is time to do what you can to make a good impression on your new co-workers and boss!

Getting Canceled is a visual novel where the choices made by the player will influence the outcome of the story.

You play the game as the protagonist called John, who is just an average guy with no memorable features or personality traits.

John starts working at the marketing department of a mid-size soft beverage company, alongside a set of teammates with slightly more distinctive personalities.

The will of the boss sometimes clashes with the team. On top of that your teammates disagree with each other constantly.

Whose side will you be on?

There is too much realism in the game. And by realism, I mean, when the main character experiences boredom, the game provides the player will ALL the boredom. When I play a game, if the MC is bored, it should take one dialog prompt to tell me the player that he is bored. Not this game, this game requires you to plow through 15-20 prompts of boring text to really drive it home. MC is also too nice. Maurice is so annoying. Again, I don't play games to get annoyed. Fewer prompts to convey how annoying he is would make the game playable as opposed to feeling like I need to endure the game. All the office folk are terrible stereotypes. And the MC can be a bit stupid at times. Note: I'm on day 6 of the game. (And even that includes some stupidity. Started work on Monday, Day 6 isn't Saturday. MC still went to work. And this is after the boss said we should get together on the weekend???)

The following is a spoiler-free review but it describes the general theme of the game. Disclaimer: I know the developers personally but the review is entirely my honest opinion. Getting Canceled is a story-based game where John, a kind of bland person, joins the marketing team of a beverage company. It's clear that his colleauges have strong- and differing opinions on a variety of matters. John therefore has to navigate the office landscape and is inevitably forced into taking sides, not only in company-related decisions, but also in a myriad of interesting office discussions as well as break room banter. The game has a fun and interesting concept, relevant in today's age in regard to "cancel culture" and a highly polarised political climate, where it is excpected of one to have a strong opinion in most matters, regardless on how well read one is on a given topic. Many of the events or comments by the characters in the story were hilarious and had me laughing out loud but the game also offers a more serious side as it promts John with e.g. moral/societal dilemmas that may deserve some reflection. Like in real life, it can be difficult to predict how the surrounding characters wil…

Great introduction to genre! Not my typical jam but found it amusing with just the right level of relatable (and sometimes infuriating) characters!
