I wish I could give this game something between a thumbs up and a thumbs down... Like it kept me entertained for a weekend, but also frustrated me from time to time quite a bit. Pro: - cozy atmosphere - adorable character designs - catchy boss fight soundtrack - adorable hand drawn cutscenes - touching story Con: - floaty controls - bugs and glitches - character models and world assets don't go well together because of different art styles - short game length (~6h) If only they invested a tiny bit more into how the world looks, this game could've been a masterpiece. The original vision behind it is definitely shining through, so I'll go with a "thumbs up" in this case.3 found this helpful
It's better than Call of Duty: Ghosts.2 found this helpful
Giraffe and Annika is an action-adventure game focused on exploration and story with a gameplay structure similar to that of traditional 3D Zelda games, except it's cuter, the world is smaller (but filled more densely), there's no combat and boss "fights" are rhythm mini-games. Despite technically looking like a PS3 game with a higher resolution, thanks to the art direction, a lot of effort and attention to detail, it's actually quite beautiful. Especially the sky might be the best I've seen in a video game. Mornings and sunsets are phenomenal (there's a full day-and-night cycle). Music is also great, including tracks from the aforementioned boss "fights". Speaking of, even though this isn't a rhythm game (there are only 5 songs/bosses), they're very well-made. The system is simple but fun and they're fully animated: bosses constantly dance and attack in the background. Before each fight - and even during - you can choose the difficulty. Those who aren't into rhythm games will have no trouble finishing boss fights on easy. Hard can be actually challenging. The whole game is generally charming and filled with soul. Clearly a lot of heart and effort were put into its creation. The…1 found this helpful
Best game ever 13/10
This has to be the most honest, earnest and innocent game I've played in decades. Play it for the wonder, and get surprised by something unapologetically cute and just downright pretty. I can't say more, the game is just a reminder of the small simple things. The childish innocence on this is not something I can understate. Just don't come in expecting high-stakes action. It's a cute, small, old-school adventure game with low stakes and fun pacing. That's all you need to know if you want it or not.
This game is a simple cozy adventure game that gives me early Playstation 2 vibes. Nothing about it is remarkable but if you are interested in playing a chill game, then I recommend it.
