June/2026 I think 3 hours is the max time need for "content/story" in AE currently. So my feedback is based on that :) The base for all the goals they set for themselves is there; now it "just" needs balancing and a reason to build or collect - as well as content :) My points so far, mostly the negative, since they stood out and are in need of attention :) [list] [*]I had a rather long frozen screen in the tutorial level. But after that I had no performance issues at all :) [*]I wish the town would protect itself from the creatures. How do they survive each night :) [*]Creatures in the underground dungeons spawn nearly right away after leaving the viewport. That was really annoying. I wish they would stay dead, and at worst, respawn maybe during the night? [*]I am not sure why I need to collect or craft so much. I did not even plant a thing. I found the stick that does magic-bullet things, bought the nice armor from the starter town shop, and I was set. I got so much to eat by killing all the mobs; I never ran out. [*]The hand-cursor, showing me where I set my marker, should look different (in any way) than my cursor hand. I got it confused with my mouse curser a co…

There are currently two negative reviews in my language, and, not to dismiss their experiences, they baffle me a bit. Most seem to talk about difficulty, and maybe it's because I'm used to a game like Don't Starve, but I didn't have much trouble. The curve of the game seemed clear to me after the first night when more enemies began to appear and come after me. The first few days should be spent working on a home, lighting up an area, and setting up defenses around a base + improving your gear. After you have your essentials down, you can start to take your time a bit more as you work on quests, decorating, refining your area, etc. There's definitely meant to be a challenge and a certain ideal way to navigate that challenge early-game. These sorts of games lean more into the *survival* side of things, and I think that's okay! This game is super charming, and not quite as brutal as Don't Starve. I find the middleground oddly cozy and really enjoyable for when I don't need to do all the work involved to keep myself alive in a game like the former.

As to be expected of an early access game, it has its issues. The developers are actively fixing and updating. Co-Op Gombo is a lot of fun!

Gombo is a really nice game! I have been waiting for this game for quite some time now, and it was definitely worth the wait! The art style is beautiful. I love these "old cartoon" vibes, and the game is full of small hidden details that you discover while playing, which is something I always love in games. You can really feel the passion that went into making it. Definitely worth trying!

Note that this game is *very* early access. All content can be done in about 2 hours, and is one of those "you get what you pay for" kinda situations. That aside though, it's very well done as of right now. The graphics are enjoyable, the music is nice, and the combat surprisingly feels great. There's little quests for you to do, and neat little magic scrolls to find that can spice up your gameplay via offensive or utility magic. There are problems however, a few of which I'm assuming are just due to the game being EA: Unless I'm misunderstanding, the game tells you 'night is deadly, stay near the light to not get obliterated." Yet night monsters will hound you down despite being next to light. Monsters can destroy your base a bit too easily. My entire base got demolished from 2 attacks from a mushroom. The campfire says it heals you but does not. The main way to get money early is by selling to an NPC, who does not have an interface; you need to sell the item in your hand to him 1 at a time and it's tedious. Item prices are wild; one log is worth 2 gold (you get like 5 per tree) while an iron tool is worth 6 gold. The soundtrack is great but it only played for like...5 minutes o…

The style is nice and there seems to be some potential but it's rough as hell right now. Get out of the area walk two feet and get swarmed by enemies with a boring attack pattern that is easy to dodge and attack but will wreck you if there is more than one. Items break stupid quick and if you're anywhere near an enemy they will chase you endlessly and not allow you to craft a new weapon. Also dropping all inventory on death is always so annoying.
