✦ AI summary
Holder of Place is a challenging auto-battler roguelite with a slick UI that players consistently praise for its design. The game is notably difficult with rare powerful builds, but players appreciate the variety that unlockable characters and relics bring to runs, though some wish for better tracking of collected relics. Overall, it delivers solid value as an engaging, vibes-driven indie experience despite its steep difficulty curve.
UI is clean, and the art, setting, and story are interesting. The writing, spelling, and diction could use more work but I was nonetheless entranced by the visuals. However, the actual amount of story content feels very short. I breezed through the entire story in just a few hours and was left wanting more. But the game had no story left to offer. The postrun endless content is not properly coded. Some interactions do not work in the way they're expected to. Despite these issues, I still enjoyed the time I spent playing and felt that I got my money's worth. But I can't help but feel like the game is still missing what it needs to be truly great. Just my two cents - some simple cutscenes for story events, as well as more story content overall.
The game is very good, just, short. You will run out of the sense of awe and exploration fairly quickly and get into a "slog" of having to grind out Relics and what Journal entries you have left. Despite that, it's incredibly fun for what it is worth.
Fun to discover combos. First win with each character (stage 50) was satisfying to figure out. Now I'm turning on ascension mechanics (they're customizable, if you like) and going for a god run. After stage 50, you can turn on endless mode. I've gotten to stage 120 or so. Tryna get higher. Is fun. Reco you buy.
Holder of Place is a good one. Didn't take much time for it to grow on me, and I'd say it has enough staying power given the combination of solid gameplay loop, playable characters with truly distinct playstyles, and a plenty of difficulty modifiers to play around with. Recommended.
Fantastic vibes. Very rarely would I say a game is worth playing on "vibes alone" - this is one of them. The game itself is pretty fun too!
