HootBox

I have to preface that the dev is a close friend of mine, so the review might be a bit biased. Hootbox is a very cute game: it's not about how big it is or how mechanically complex or polished the gameplay loop can be: it's about the little things that are here and there that bring it to life and the amount of love that is clearly poured in it. The pixel art is very cute, the soundtrack also, the progression is balanced and gets quicker over time with the upgrades in the shop and it's very fun to build taller and taller to see whatever is awaiting at the top of the next level. At the price the game is, it's a steal, and I can guarantee that it'll at least make you smile once, knowing how much of a passion project it is and how far it came since the beginning. But more than that, it'll also give you an actual fun game to pass your time with and to look forward to playing when thinking of what to do next or what secrets or strange things you may be able to find! P.S: The game is updated with new wacky stuff, so it'll be fun to check once in a while to see what's new.

A hand-drawn game about an owl with a dream of climbing as high as he can. It's easy to see this was a true labour of love from its creator. While it's a little rough around the edges, it's overflowing with charm, heart, and personality. webas!

Hootbox is a journey featuring a mix of colors and different gameplay mechanics—a pixel art gem into which the sole developer has poured his heart and soul. The game’s concept is simple: climb higher and higher by building a tower of boxes. Gufo gradually spices up this simplicity with new gameplay mechanics and new items, giving players new and different ways to farm and grind points to reach ever-greater heights. You can see that as the game progresses, it becomes more complex—not only in gameplay but also in its pixel art style: on the lower levels, the art is simpler, while the higher you go, the more complex and polished it becomes. For now, the game is in Early Access, but there’s enough content and challenge to give it a try, especially considering its price.
