I've played a few different variations on the "watermelon game", but I think this is going to stay my favourite for a while. There are a lot of different play modes, giving this game a lot of different ways to play. In the main one, you build an exp gauge as you play, and that earns you items to use. There's also a mode where every X number of drops, the game will change and you need to work round it. There's even a mode where instead of filling the pot as normal, all the ingredients circle the centre, like a gravitational pull. And, there are "no items" modes, for when you want to play it a bit less crazy. I've played about 6 hours so far and I feel like there's still more I haven't seen yet! There are also leaderboards (both local and global) for each game mode. Also the achievements list is fun for this game, I sometimes get one and then think "oh wow, I didn't realise I could do that". I think this adds to why I am feeling like I have only scratched the surface of this game. Good game, I recommend it.

This game was reviewed using Version 1.0.4. Your experience on other versions may vary.
Short Answer:
A Suika-style merge puzzle game with the added twist of a roguelike-ish leveling and item system, plus a few extra game modes to reduce or compound the chaos. The physics are a little janky and the English translations aren't always the best, but I found it surprisingly fun given that I normally don't like this genre of puzzle game.
Long Answer:
I'll be blunt right out the gate and say that I don't really care much for the Suika-style merge puzzle game genre. I played a little bit of the original Suika Game when it first got popular and quickly decided that it just wasn't my cup of tea; and the staggering amount of Suika clones that have popped up in my Steam recommendation algorithm since then hasn't done much to change my opinion. When a review copy of Hot Pot Game—another Suika-style merge puzzle game—landed in my inbox, I almost declined it on the spot because I figured it would just be more of the same; but I opened the store page and saw that it had a free demo, and decided…

Hotpot Game is a deceptively simple match-3 type game featuring merge & basic physics mechanics. In its base state its fun enough but also features power items & game modes. It's a ripper of a game. Hotpot game took me by surprise. The UI and some of the key art needs a bit of work but the game itself is a great take on the match-3 genre. Each merge gets bigger so the pressure piles on fast. Base mode was great but I loved the magnet mode. For more niche curation, follow me at: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/27440015-CSH-Picone/

Hot Pot Game is a cute merge puzzle game as the description says. It's a bit different because Hot Pot Game is also a deck builder, and you can choose items you've won with your deck from your spare pot. Some of the items from your spare pot work very well, although some aren't clear on how to use. One issue I didn't care for is that when you weren't in full screen mode, you would accidentally click on your desktop because the cursor was so small. I'll follow up with my review as updates become available.
