Black Space is a free to play 2D retro top down SpaceWar! ripoff featuring a couple of different multiplayer game modes. There's 2D retro pixel "art", what looks like a 4:3 stretched aspect ratio (it's funny to watch your ship distort as it turns around!), what looks like a game engine written in .NET or java or Visual Basic or something. The game crashes on alt+tab with a CRenderer::DrawBegin() error, so there's a lot of quality issues that make this unrecommendable. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. Even for free, I can't recommend this. Though it's a free to play game, I failed to get any fun out of it. Asteroids appear suddenly in screen and cause damage or instant death and the arena fighting might be improved with smaller sprites and more noticeable effects regarding the obtainable power-ups in the game. The game also seems to crush when trying to alt-tab out of it, but that's just a detail. Certainly, an update by the creator is required to improve it a bit.1 found this helpful
