Jettatura

This game is decent enough for a recommend. There are caveats though: Attributes can go down on level up, you'll get cursed items with no way to sell or dispose of them other than drop them in the dungeon. None of the items have what they do and what they provide. The Pro's are its turn based, well made, I haven't seen any bugs, hard enough to keep you grinding. Give it a shot if you like Wizardy/turn based dungeon crawlers.

If you are looking for a Wizardry clone at a reasonable price and have already played the Elminage games, this is not a bad choice. The Druid, Highlander, and Wizard are three unique classes that give the game a nice twist. Otherwise the game is very reminicent of the older Wizardy games with more modern graphics. Anyone looking for more modern interpretations of the Wizardry formula should look elsewhere. This holds very closely to the originals. I've seen much worse implementations than Jettatura. It was a nice way to pass the time. The manual is also pretty good for one of these kinds of games.

Jettatura is enjoyable and faithful clone of Wizardry 1, sometimes even too faithful (with all its warts like level up random stat decrease), with some things from later games sprinkled here and there. So, if you liked original Wizardry, you will definitely like it. Great visuals, good music, moderately complex six dungeon levels, some hard battles and simple, but pleasant old school RPG system and interface. A recipe for the good game in my opinion. With drawing my own maps, it took me twenty hours. It's a pity, that the armor and weapon table from the manual is incomplete, because there is no way to see the weapon stats in the game.

I've been looking at the games inspired by wizardry and decided it would be fun to investigate a modern indie game in the genre between historical relics. This game feels like a near perfect implementation of the genre to me. This feels like an excellent on-ramp into the genre for new players, as well as a really solid dungeon crawl for veterans. Of note for new players. This game retains the fundamental core of this particular genre, which is the impermanence of parties. You are playing as the spirit of adventure luring characters to their possible doom. Part of the game is the risk of having your entire party wipe, and needing to level a whole new party to go collect their bodies. Dungeon progression (i.e. unlocked doors) is permanent, and any key items will be where the party died even if the party itself isn't recoverable because of a mishap with a bottomless pit, so there is no fail state. You cannot get a game over. If bad things happen you simply go on. You can certainly use backup saves to bypass catastrophe if you want, but this game is not very long, and I think it defeats some of what makes this genre unique to know for a fact that you will only go in with 1 …

This is a moderately-good game. As a WIzardry-like, it includes a lot of the frustrations and hardships of the genre, but makes them less annoying. Visually, it's pleasant and has a nice style to its monsters. Gameplay itself is reasonable, with good character advancement, but overall it's just less fun than it could be. I don't regret purchasing or playing this game, but it has room for improvement. Still, 10x better than the Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord remake.
