About Kate: Collateral Damage

Kate: Collateral Damage is a time-attack, action roguelike inspired by the Netflix film.

You are Kate, a deadly assassin on a last-ditch quest for revenge against the Yakuza crime boss that lethally poisoned you. Battle your way through the Tokyo criminal underground in a life-or-death race against the clock!

Pickup firearms and melee weapons from fallen enemies and in the environment, including pistols, submachine guns, knives, katanas, and more. All weapons have limited ammo, so you'll need to discard them and find new ones as you react and adapt to the combat situation at hand.

A time bar at the top of the screen constantly marches towards your inevitable death at the hands of the deadly radioactive poison, Polonium 204. Killing enemies slows the rate at which the time bar depletes, awarding your deadly precision. Stimulant syringes, earned and unlocked through gameplay, can restore the time bar fully upon use, extending your run. They can also passively save you from a killing blow. It's up to you how you consume these syringes to survive.

Battle alongside Ani, your hostage and newfound companion, who lends support with special abilities mid-combat.

Most enemies die from only one or two hits, but similarly, so does Kate. Quick reactions and threat prioritization are essential to survival. Through persistent upgrades and temporary perks earned between levels within runs, you can become more lethal and resilient.

I enjoyed the film very much and this videogame tie-in kind of perfectly emulates the essence of the original. It is simple but very effective. It took me much more time that I think is usual, to even beat it for the first time and now I just get back to it now and then just to kill some time and bad guys perfecting my runs in Infinity Mode. (Kate is perfect game to play on Steam Deck. The artstyle fits that display size greatly but could be a bit less enjoyable on a bigger display.)

Kate... you've caused me so much collateral damage that I have ever known. 💙 Your ticking poison timer had me racing through Tokyo’s neon alleys, each kill a desperate bid to stay alive. 🔪 With razor-sharp pixel art and frenetic one-hit combat, you kept my pulse pounding till the very end. 8/10 for adrenaline overload! ❤️‍🔥

Don't feel like an upgrade over Akane even though the added new mechanics.

A fast-paced, time-attack, roguelite, beat-em-up game inspired from a good action film. Pros + There’s a variety of melee and ranged weapons to use. + Controls and game mechanics are very fluid. You can throw your weapons to your enemies and pick up their dropped weapons. + You have random upgrades to choose from in your runs; as well as meta progression. Cons - When you end the game in story or infinite mode, it always checks the leaderboard even when you are offline. So if you are offline and the game tries to load the leaderboards, it just loads indefinitely and you cannot exit from this unless you connect to the internet and have the leaderboards loaded up. - There’s no description in the costume. So when you try to get a costume-related achievement, you’ll just have to complete the game with that costume and see if you got the achievement. This is troublesome for those who don’t know the characters mentioned on the achievement or what they look like. - You cannot remap the buttons. - Price is a bit high compared to what the game has to offer. Its a good fast-paced game. But it is a bit overpriced for its replayability and how short it is. I give it 6/10.

Kate: Collateral Damage, developed and published by Ludic Studios, is an adrenaline-fueled action roguelike that captures the intensity and desperation of its cinematic inspiration with surprising effectiveness. Set within the neon-drenched streets of Tokyo, the game follows Kate, a professional assassin who finds herself racing against time after being poisoned by her enemies. The premise immediately sets the stage for a fast-paced, high-stakes experience: every second counts, and every kill becomes a desperate bid to prolong life for just a few moments more. The result is a tightly constructed action experience that thrives on urgency, challenging players to balance aggression and efficiency in a world where hesitation equals death. The gameplay revolves around a central timer mechanic that defines every aspect of the experience. Kate is slowly dying, and the player’s only means of survival is to keep killing enemies to extend the countdown. This simple but brilliant design choice injects constant tension into the gameplay loop. Every encounter becomes a matter of life and death—not just because enemies are dangerous, but because the clock is always ticking. The combat itself is…
