About Lord Ambermaze: Prologue

Test your wits and tactics in this stylish pixel-art maze where you’ll overcome predatory vegetables and stinky insects in unique turn-based challenges. Inspired by classic Zelda games, you’ll play as Zeyn, a young adventurer armed with a large sword, a bow, and bombs.   The gameplay is simple: time moves only when you move. Use this to your advantage — avoid deadly traps, lure enemies into them, plan several steps ahead, and use your modest arsenal to fend off the maze’s dangers.    Features:

  • An exclusive boss not appearing in the full game
  • Over thirty unique one-screen challenges filled with enemies, traps, and puzzles
  • Speedrunning mode to challenge yourself and compare your results with players worldwide on the global leaderboard

Lord Ambermaze: Prologue is a tightly designed, turn-based dungeon crawler that immediately sets itself apart through its clever fusion of tactical combat and puzzle-solving. Developed by Potata Company and published by HeroCraft PC, the prologue serves as both an introduction and a self-contained experience, offering a focused slice of gameplay that highlights the core mechanics without unnecessary padding. From the moment players step into its maze-like environments, the game establishes a clear identity built around deliberate movement, careful planning, and the idea that every action has consequences. The defining mechanic is simple yet remarkably effective: time only advances when the player moves. This transforms each dungeon room into a controlled, almost puzzle-like space where enemies, traps, and environmental elements remain frozen until triggered. As a result, gameplay becomes less about reaction speed and more about foresight. Players must study each situation, anticipate how enemies will behave, and plan several steps ahead to avoid damage or failure. Combat is not about overpowering foes through brute force but about positioning, timing, and using the environment str…

"Lord Ambermaze: Prologue" is is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Lord Ambermaze". Lord Ambermaze is a crappy mobile app tier pixelcrap turn based grid puzzle with a "dungeon" skin slapped on... all you do is move around and pick up bombs/shoot arrows/attack in four cardinal directions to influence various other tiles on the puzzle grid so you can get to the exit tile in each level. It's massively overrated, but it suddenly makes more sense when you see the developer bought paid/fake reviews from the Russian review farm uncovered by Sentinels of the Store. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Sentinels_of_the_Store/announcements/detail/4222762959836264571 But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Lord Ambermaze, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing re…

Kinda a neat little puzzle game.

Got through the prologue in about half an hour, and while it's a very competently made game with good pixel art and music, I have some real concerns about the way that dungeon crawler mechanics are being implemented here. This game falls into the same crowd as Tactical Breach Wizards where every room is just a short puzzle, and not a very hard one at that. Unlike in, say, Into the Breach, every puzzle comes with a set solution and creativity generally just complicates things. While it might be fun to unwind with and I'm sure the devs have more up their sleeves, the fact that the tutorial seems to assume I don't know how turn-based combat works doesn't point towards a very stimulating difficulty curve, and the story is so cutesy I doubt I'm missing out on the next literary classic, so I'm going to pass on the full game. No hate, just not for me or mine.
