Maniac Mansion

Classic point & click released in 1987, a living fossil in the AI age. Control is wacky, no BGM (not sure if it's the game or my setting), pixelated graphics, still recommend all to all gamers, give it a try, see how far you will go.

Brings back nice memories. I actually never finished the game when I was younger. The fact you can't save progress is the reason, plus I'm kind of dumb. Anyway, I wish the re-release of game would have had option to save progress. I guess that would've required time and money that the "big whigs" weren't willing to dish out money for. Oh well. Still a classic game.

I’ve played this game on 1991 when i got my first computer. I played it all my living hours as possible (i was 15 and shared the computer with my big family). My original computer was an XT clone with Hercules Amber monitor. No mouse. No harddrive. No Soundcard. The game came in two floppy disks 5 1/4”. I had the photocopies of the door codes, barely legible. I bought my copy on the local computer store 2 blocks from my dad’s home. There was no legal software in Argentina or any way to get this software legally. Discovered almost 4 endings all by myself. When I blew up the hamster i realized this game had a depth that was beyond my wildest dreams. Many years later I couldn’t believe that Ron Gilbert said with Jeff there was a possible ending. Luckily I’ve found that way too. I’ve been living like a brain donor for almost 30 years. For another 30 years now that I’m a legal owner of this game thank to the magic of steam!!

I loved the NES version as a kid and since this is the only version on Steam I've got to recommend this classic. That being said, it doesn't have those classic music tracks that really helped that version stand out. There are also some bugs and an unintuitive user experience. So, while the base game is worth playing ... it also isn't going to totally help any NES version fans fully re-live that nostalgia nor be the best experience for a modern gamer interested in this classic.

Maniac Mansion is a classic point & click adventure that still shines with creativity and charm. Coming from only having played the NES version, waaay back in the day, experiencing the original PC release feels like seeing the game as it was truly meant to be. The multiple characters, branching paths, and quirky humor give it a surprising amount of depth and replayability, while its simple interface laid the groundwork for so many adventure games that followed. It’s clever, weird, and endlessly inventive - a foundational classic that still holds up as a fun and memorable experience. And if these sort of games are your thing, and you haven't experienced Maniac Mansion yet, you should.
