About Escape from Monkey Island™

Spitting the sand of Monkey Island from my mouth, I wondered if the life of a mighty pirate was all it was cracked up to be. I'd ignored recent events that should have been warning shots across the bow of my soul, from my wife's brush with death to the anti-pirate ramblings of an Australian gazillionaire. If only I'd chosen a different path, LeChuck might still be dead and the Ultimate Insult might have remained a mystery. If I'd never picked up a sword, the grog-swilling pirates of the Tri-Island Area might be unthreatened by the forces of gentrification and demonic heckfire. If only... suddenly, the hairy finger of a familiar monkey tapped me on the shoulder. It was time. Time for the biggest battle of my swashbuckling life.

- Excerpted from "The Memoirs of Guybrush Threepwood: The Monkey Island Years"

Fourth in the legendary Monkey Island series of graphic adventures!

• An original, cinematic story full of drama, sociopathic parrots, and a villain with a sinister agenda!
• Dozens of lusciously rendered backgrounds!
Hundreds of puzzles to challenge both novice and veteran pirates... er, adventurers!
• New jokes! New puns! New insults! And more monkeys than the three previous Monkey games combined!

After 38 hours, I have finaly beat the Escape from Monkey Island (TM) without using any guide or help. I must say, this is not worth it. Main story is okay at best, but in general character dialogs and writing is good and funny. And story literally takes of and continues from the previous game, so if you want to know what happens next, you should also play Escape from Monkey Island (TM). But you will not be able to enjoy Escape from Monkey Island (TM) compare to other monkey island games that came before Escape from Monkey Island (TM). Why? Because everything is 3D and there is no mouse cursor on the screen. You have to use arrow keys to move the Guybrush and make sure he is facing the right object for you to interact with. Also for Guybrush to interact with anything you need to use other keys on your keyboard. Like for you to hear his comments on the object please press (E), for talking with and NPC or use an item please press (U), and for some reason if you want to pick some object please press (P), etc etc. Annoying and ineffective. For last, puzzles. Some puzzles are simple, you might think, but they are not. Layers on layers. Endless circles between characters and areas and…

Tried to play and it cruined my display, had to reboot to fix. I would love to play but will stick to watching a playthrough unfortunatley. The games 1-3 are excellent though

I loved every other entry in Monkey Island, but this one is practically unplayable. The writing and voice acting is great, but the controls are so terrible. Getting Guybrush anywhere specific is like pushing a shopping cart with stuck wheels. Trying to get him to simply walk up to a door is so infuriating I wanted to pull my hair out. Every other entry in Monkey Island is a point and click adventure, and this one utterly abandons that concept. No mouse use at all. Two of the previous entries were played almost exclusively on the mouse. I can only guess that this was made to be played on a console, not PC. I'm glad the game after this one was a return to form, and I feel no less love for the series as a whole. But I can't enjoy this game when I can't even get Guybrush to walk in a straight line. Every series has to have a worst one, I suppose, and for Monkey Island this is it.

Currently playing through Escape from Monkey Island again, and am wholeheartedly in love just like I was as a child. I remember spending hours with my grandpa trying to solve the stubborn puzzles in this game, and still find myself getting stuck on the same ones I used to now that I’ve forgotten a lot of them. The controls are fine, y’all really just like making a big stink about it because it’s not what you’re used to. They’re VERY easy to get used to. Took me a minute or two tops upon launching. HIGHLY recommend!! Will probably be coming back to this one for many years to come.

I thought I reviewed this! Anyway, seeing as I didn't, I want to say: IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME WE HAD THIS ON STEAM!! This was the first 3D entry into the series and at the time it felt a little lacklustre, but it does grow on you despite the silly stuff with the Monkey Combat. About to play it again and see how it holds up. Lots of fun memories of Guybrush's antics.

Against the overall reviews of Escape of Monkey Island as lower level if compared with the others of the saga, this one is the adventure I liked most! More interactive puzzles, long story, and really amazing music scores! It suffers of primitive 3D engines, and the movements of Guybrush are not always fluid. Even if I found The Curse of Monkey Island as the most humorous (Murray LOL), also this one has fantastic comic moments. Great way to complete the saga! Ahoy!
